Planet Clutched To Fluid Flywheel Patents (Class 475/111)
  • Patent number: 10677335
Abstract: Provided is a continuously variable transmission capable of solving a technical problem in which upon activation of a continuously variable transmission, speed increase in vaned-wheel power density is low and unable to meet the requirement for rapidly increasing output torque. The present continuously variable transmission comprises a planetary gear set (101) at an input end and a planetary gear set (102) at an output end. A planetary carrier (104) having a cavity is provided between the planetary gear set (101) at the input end and the planetary gear set (102) at the output end. The planetary carrier (104) comprises an input end cover (6) and an output end cover (13). A vaned-wheel housing (14) having a cavity is fixed between the input end cover (6) and the output end cover (13). An inner side of the planetary gear set (101) at the input end is connected to the input end cover (6). An inner side of the planetary gear set (102) at the output end is connected to the output end cover (13).

  • Patent number: 8702547
Abstract: A flywheel module has a flywheel as well as a speed transforming device which has a first in/output which is connected to the flywheel, and a second in/output which is coupled to a drive line of a vehicle. The speed transforming device has a bypass speed transforming device and a motor and/or generator. Energy can then be exchanged with the flywheel by suitably controlling the motor and/or generator. As a result of the delivery of a negative torque by the motor and/or generator, the flywheel accelerates and because of the delivery of a positive torque by the motor and/or generator the flywheel decelerates.

Abstract: A flywheel includes a hub portion concentrically defined around a center of the flywheel. A body portion located peripherally around the hub portion has a driver-side face and a driven-side face. A plurality of passageways in the body portion extend through the flywheel and fluidly connect the driver-side face with the driven-side face. Each of the plurality of passageways is adapted to receive a flow of lubricant spilling onto the driver-side of the body portion when the flywheel is rotating, and to expel lubricant out of the driven-side face of the body portion.

  • Patent number: 5672134
Abstract: A coupling consisted of a compound carrier mounted on a drive shaft and a ring gear mounted on a driven shaft. Axles, on which planet gears and hermetically sealed hollow drums with inner radial blades are secured rotate freely in the carrier bearings. The drums are partly filled a fluid. The planet gears are inside the ring gear and in ingagement with it. The driven shaft angle velocity ranges from 0 to the drive shaft angle velocity. The coupling transfers a continuously varying torque from the drive shaft to the driven shaft.

  • Patent number: 5086664
Abstract: The invention includes liquid weighted, variable inertia flywheels of various designs together with subsystems to selectively control the addition of liquid into and the removal of liquid from the flywheels while the flywheels rotate. In one embodiment liquid is removed and energy extracted through centrally mounted turbines. In other embodiments, liquid is extracted through various rotatable Pitot tube devices. In yet another embodiment liquid is added and removed through bucket wheels supported for rotation on a centrally located, independently rotatable carrier. Pairs of flywheels are further incorporated into continuously variable transmissions, together with fluid control devices to vary the fluid levels in and thus the moment of inertia of each of the flywheels for energy storage and extraction.

  • Patent number: 4916975
Abstract: A torque converter system is provided with two differential gears, the cage of the first differential gear receiving the power from the engine motion input shaft and the output shaft of the second differential gear cage driving the system output shaft. The two differential gears have their four planetaries coupled two by two, wherein:the engine motion input shaft and the system power output shaft are coaxial;the motion is transmitted through each differential gear by planetary shafts which are coaxial to each other and coaxial to the shaft respectively connected to the input cage and the output cage,a mechanism is provided for the staging of fixed ratios between the rotation speeds at the input and the output; a rotation of the converter system output shaft in one direction and in the other; a disconnection of the output shaft in order to obtain a dead point, and the blocking of the output shaft rotation.
