Abstract: A parallel eccentric electro-mechanical actuator provides motive power and includes an electric prime mover that drives the reducer's pinion gear. This pinion drives minimum three star gears with stationary shaft bearings. Each shaft contains an eccentric which are completely in parallel with each other. These eccentrics can be thought of as parallel/in-phase driven crankshafts. Each eccentric drives the parallel eccentric (PE) gear through a bearing. The PE gear exhibits a circular motion (without rotation) which in itself is unbalanced. The crankshafts have another eccentric which create an opposite inertia force to balance that of the PE gear. The PE gear contains an external toothed gear on its periphery. It meshes with the internal teeth of the output ring gear. The relative motion between the PE gear and the ring gear is that the PE gear rolls inside the ring gear. This relative motion is called hypo-cycloidal motion.

  • Patent number: 7344467
Abstract: A self regulating continuously variable torque transmission in which two planetary gears of lesser diameter drive two internal gears of greater diameter by orbiting and rotating around an output shaft which forms the rotational axis of the ring gears. Planetary gear orbit is constant while rotation is variable. Loads greater than available torque cause the ring gears to rotate at a lesser velocity than torque input, causing the planetary gears to rotate at a lesser velocity than torque input. To compensate for this, a carrier mounted on the output shaft rotates at a reduced velocity, reducing planetary gear rotation. This carrier provides two diametrically opposed axes, one each for two crankshafts which rotate on these axes during reduced planetary gear rotation, carrying each planetary gear in orbit around a separate axis. These two movements are created by an input crankshaft with one throw and a second crankshaft mounted by bearings on the input throw.

  • Patent number: 6832970
Abstract: A reduction gear for a starter-generator of an internal combustion engine, wherein the starter-generator is functionally linked with the crankshaft (2) via a drive belt (6). A planetary gear is mounted in the force-transmitting path between the crankshaft (2) and a first belt pulley (6) that is coaxial to the crankshaft. The aim is to create a reduction gear which provides the gear ratio required for the starting mode and which can be switched in such a manner that it can be operated in any mode of operation. To this end, the reduction gear (8) is a planetary stage that includes a housing (10), an internal gear (11), a sun gear (14), a cage (15) and a planetary ring (16) with internal (18) and external (17). The internal gear intermeshes with the external teeth (17) of the planetary ring (16) and is functionally linked with the crankshaft (2) of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 6679801
Abstract: Axial positions of two driven external gears 66 making up each of a plurality of paired-gear groups 67 with respect to an input shaft 62 are made identical, and a different paired-gear group 67 is arranged by being offset in the axial direction of the input shaft 62. Therefore, only two driven external gears 66 making up the paired-gear group 67 are present at an identical axial position of the input shaft 62. Consequently, even if the diameters of these driven external gears 66 are made large up to the very limit, these driven external gears 66 do not interfere with each other. Accordingly, it is possible to readily enlarge the reduction ratio based on the driving and driven external gears 65 and 66.

  • Patent number: 6607461
Abstract: A low-vibration and precise electrically driven actuator is provided. A disk is fixed to an input shaft, and a planetary gear is fixed to an output shaft. A circular recess is formed in the disk so as to be eccentric with respect to the input shaft. A ring gear engaged with the planetary gear is rotatably supported by the circular recess. A weight portion W is provided in an unrecessed portion of the disk in order to recover an axial dynamic balance of the disk, which is lost by arranging the circular recess and the ring gear. Since the planetary gear is coaxially fixed to the output shaft, it does not make an eccentric motion and thus its dynamic balance is secured. Accordingly, the axial dynamic balance can be secured in every individual rotating element composing a gear device. The gear device is employed in the electrically driven actuator for the purpose of providing an electrically driven actuator with a low vibration and a property of high precision.

Abstract: An eccentric gear comprises two differently large gear rings (6, 7), of which an outer ring (6) has a certain number of inwardly directed teeth and an inner ring (7) has a smaller number of outwardly directed teeth, of which only a few engage with the outer gear ring, in that the inner gear ring is eccentrically mounted in bearings. The inner gear ring (7) is integrated with a casing part (8) whose geometrical axis of rotation (A) is oblique relative to an axis of symmetry (B) through the center of the outer gear ring (6). Abstract: Trochoidal tooth form gear assemblies for in-line mechanical power transmission, gear reduction and differential drive employ internally meshed gear sets having differing numbers of trochoidal gear teeth, all of which are in continuous contact as one gear rotates and orbits relative to another. Coupling and output rotors having external trochoidal gear teeth profiles rotate and/or orbit in mesh with conjugate internal trochoidal gear teeth in stators or coupling rotors. A differing number of teeth between the meshed external and internal gear teeth provides gear reduction of rotational speeds through axially aligned input and output shafts. In certain embodiments, couplers are eccentrically mounted upon axially extending pins to translate the orbital motion of a meshed gear to shaft rotation. The gear sets can be combined in series to provide various gear reduction ratios as functions of the differing number of meshed gear teeth.
