  • Patent number: 8864619
Abstract: A power take off device includes input and output shafts and an integral planetary gear set. The power take off device may be a single speed or a two speed device. The input shaft and the output shaft are mechanically connected through the planetary gear set. In one mode of operation of the power take off device, a substantial speed reduction and torque increase is provided between the input shaft and the output shaft. The power take off device may change to a second mode of operation without stopping to provide a direct one to one speed and torque ratio between the input shaft and the output shaft. A planetary gear set clutch unit includes a two direction actuator that provides fluid pressure actuation and release of the clutch unit with a single input signal.

  • Patent number: 8517889
Abstract: In an assembly with a planetary gear train, which includes the elements sun gear, planet carrier with planetary gears and ring gear, two elements, in particular the sun gear and the planet carrier, are coupled with each other via an overrunning clutch. A clutch bridges the overrunning clutch. Bridging is discontinuous and controlled by a control device based on the relative rotation of the two elements to be coupled. For example, one rotation speed sensor can measure the rotation speed of an electric machine, whereas another rotation speed sensor can measure the rotation speed of a crankshaft of an combustion engine. In a motor vehicle, the combustion engine can be coupled with an electric machine, using different gear ratios during startup or boosting and in generator operation. In addition, the electric machine can drive an air-conditioning compressor when the combustion engine is not running.

  • Patent number: 8469855
Abstract: A multi-speed transmission module is provided that can passively and automatically upshift and downshift between two speed ratios, even if the speed of the output member does not decrease. The transmission module includes a planetary gear set. A torque-transmitting mechanism is engageable to connect the two members of the planetary gear set for common rotation. A centripetal member is configured to apply a first axial force urging engagement of the torque-transmitting mechanism. The first axial force increases as the speed of the output member increases. A torque-to-thrust actuator, such as a ball screw actuator, is connected for rotation with the input member and is configured to apply a second axial force opposing engagement of the torque-transmitting mechanism.

  • Patent number: 8360926
Abstract: A transmission has a housing and two input/output shafts. Inside the housing is a planetary gear set with three rotatable members which are connected to the housing and the two input/output shafts. Inside the housing is a clutch which can connect two out of three of the rotatable members. When the clutch is closed the input/output shafts are connected together one to one. The pressure plate of the clutch is connected to a brake disc of a brake system that is connected to one of the rotatable members. When the brake system is closed the input/output shafts are connected via the planetary gear set. The transmission further includes a lever which can move the brake disc in axial direction and can thus open the clutch during operation.

  • Patent number: 6949042
Abstract: A shiftable transmission in which at least two clutches (2, 7) actuated in closing direction by spring force and in opening direction by the exertion of pressure are arranged, wherein output of the transmission is stopped by unpressurized shifting of both actuation devices (9, 13) thereby closing both clutches (2, 7).
