Including One-way Clutch Or Brake Patents (Class 475/324)
  • Patent number: 5152726
Abstract: A shiftable roller clutch to replace the standard disk pack clutch in an automatic transmission is specifically designed to act cooperatively with the planet carrier, and to occupy a minimum of axial space within the transmission housing. The cage pilots on the outer surface of the cam race as it is shifted back and forth, and the actuator that moves the cage is axially aligned with the cam race, so that the total axial space taken up is minimized. The cam race also pilots on part of the planet carrier so as to maintain its concentricity therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5139468
Abstract: A two speed engine accessory drive including a gear case 12 and an input shaft 26 rotatable about an axis that is concentric with the central gear case axis 54. The input shaft 26 carries a drive sun gear 38. A driven sun gear 78 is positioned adjacent to the drive sun gear and is attached to an accessory drive shaft 91 that is rotatable about an axis that is concentric with the central gear case axis 54. A compound planet gear 66 is supported by a planet gear carrier 52 that is rotatable about the central gear case axis 54. The compound planet gear 66 includes a rigid insert 70, a first plastic planet gear 76 secured to the insert and in mesh with the drive sun gear 38, and a second plastic planet gear 76 secured to the insert and in mesh with the driven sun gear 78. A brake band 98 is operable to allow or prevent rotation of the planet gear carrier 52.

  • Patent number: 5011464
Abstract: A two-speed centrifugally shifted automatic transmission provides an overdrive output shaft rotational speed that may be three times the rotational speed of the input shaft (12). A shift point at a partial speed may provide a direct drive through an overrunning clutch (33). A spline mounted shift engagement ring (46) is adapted to slide axially within housing (10) to restrain planet carrier ring (36) from rotating at start-up. After reaching a predetermined input shaft rotational speed, the shift engagement ring (46) moves to its extreme left position (FIG. 1), thereby allowing the planet carrier ring (36) to rotate and the rotational speed of the output shaft (14) to be driven by the overrunning clutch (33).

  • Patent number: 4930610
Abstract: A mounting structure is provided for a one-way clutch in an automatic transmission of the type that a carrier of a planetary gear mechanism and a casing of the transmission are connected together by way of a one-way clutch allowing the carrier to rotate only in one direction along a central axis of rotation of the planetary gear mechanism. A coupling member coupling the carrier and the one-way clutch to each other is splined at an end portion thereof, which is located on the side of the carrier, with the carrier so as to allow the carrier to slide along the central axis of the rotation. A limiting member is provided to limit the range of sliding movements of the coupling member.
