And Nonplanetary Gearing Patents (Class 475/52)
  • Patent number: 10514084
Abstract: A power transmission system is disclosed for infinitely variable speed capability. The power transmission system includes a pair of power units, each configured to deliver a rotational torque to drive an output element. A transmission arrangement receives the rotational torques from the power units and delivers a resulting torque to the output element. The transmission arrangement includes a gear set coupling the one power unit to the output element to deliver torque through a mechanical meshing engagement that is continuously effected between the first power unit and the output element.

  • Patent number: 9217504
Abstract: A shift control method for an automated transmission of a motor vehicle. The transmission has an input shaft that is connectable, via a separator clutch, to an engine driveshaft. An output shaft is connected with the axle transmission of a drive axle or with a transfer box, and starting gears are engagable by gear clutches. When tooth-on-tooth positions occurs at the associated gear clutch, during engagement of a starting gear while the vehicle is stationary, such tooth-on-tooth positioning is resolved with maximum comfort. The method provides that when a tooth-on-tooth position exists at the gear clutch of the starting gear, engagement of the gear clutch is first interrupted, then drive torque is applied to the input shaft or a transmission shaft in driving connection therewith to rotate the input-side clutch half of the gear clutch, and the drive torque is then eliminated before the engagement of the gear clutch continues.

  • Patent number: 8282522
Abstract: A mechanical-hydraulic continuously variable transmission and a transmission for vehicle are provided. The mechanical speed changing components of such transmission includes an eccentric mechanism (2), a pushing disc (4), a fixing disc (3), and a driving disc (5). The eccentric mechanism can adjust the eccentric amount between the pushing disc and the power input shaft based on the load of the driving disc. The hydraulic speed changing components of such transmission include a pump runner (6) and a turbine (7) fixed to the driving disc. A power output shaft is coupled to the turbine and extended out of the housing. Based on the advantage of high torque ratio of the mechanical speed changing components at low speed ratio, the turbine of the hydraulic speed changing components can be actuated and accelerated quickly. When the speed ratio reaches a certain value, the main power transmitting path is from the pump runner to the turbine of the hydraulic speed changing components.

  • Patent number: 7691028
Abstract: A system that employs a torque converter and a shiftable mechanical lock to start up rotating industrial equipment. A gear mechanism is employed to account for rotational slippage inherent in the torque converter. The torque converter and gear mechanism are used during start-up to increase the speed of the rotating industrial equipment. When the speed of the rotating industrial equipment is substantially synchronized with the speed of the driver, the mechanical lock is engaged.

  • Patent number: 7654927
Abstract: The present invention relates to a transmission apparatus (15) including at least one of a dividing unit (6) and a differential planetary gear unit (30), and a joint unit (20). A rotational power, which has been input to the transmission apparatus (15), is transmitted to the joint unit (20) via the dividing unit (6) or the differential planetary gear unit (30). A rotational power to be input to the joint unit (20) is smaller than the rotational power which has been input to the transmission apparatus (15), and the joint unit comprises a fluid coupling.

  • Patent number: 5151067
Abstract: A fully automatic transmission system for a vehicle eliminates the use of hydraulic or electromagnetic valves to control speed change, and instead utilizes clutches to change shift and disconnect power transmission, to minimize power consumption during idle shift, and to prevent slipping of the vehicle during climb on an upgrade, respectively, when no power is transmitted to the vehicle wheels, and without the need to brake the vehicle. When the revolving speed of the vehicle engine is slower that that of the transmission shaft, idle rotation of the system's clutch lining connector is automatically prevented.

  • Patent number: 5030179
Abstract: A manually-shifted transmission for use in passenger cars and trucks includes a number of constantly-meshed pairs of gears for coupling one shaft to another through a dog clutch on the power output gear of each gear pair. Also included in this basic configuration of the invention are a motorcycle-style shift drum which controls engagement of the dog clutches, a sprag clutch on the power input side of the gear pairs and a wet, multi-disc clutch on the power output side. Since the multi-disc clutch is disengaged for gearshifting, the total gearshift load accelerated or decelerated by the dog clutches is very low and includes none of the gear pairs. The resulting very rapid change from engagement of one gear pair to engagement of another, in conjuction with automatic engagement and disengagement action of the sprag clutch, allows full-power downshifting of the transmission.

  • Patent number: 4913002
Abstract: A transmission system for use in automobile vehicles and in which the ratio-varying unit is unidirectional and is of the continuously-variable type, particularly the toroidal-race rolling traction type. An epicyclic combination and a hydrokinetic element are located in succession between the output of the ratio-varying unit and the final drive output of the system as a whole. The epicyclic combination and hydrokinetic element help to overcome two typical problems of transmissions with such ratio-varying units, namely low output torque range and difficulty in starting from rest, and this arrangement and the torque-splitting action of the epicyclic combination enable a smaller element to be used than would be possible if it were located on the input side of the ratio-varying unit. The system also includes a reversing mechanism located downstream of the ratio unit and preferably between the hydrokinetic element and the final drive output.
