Abstract: The system includes at least two power disc elements, each mounted for rotation on a central shaft which is typically fixed. The first power disc element includes a first peripheral gear portion at the rim of the power disc element by which the first power disc element is turned. A first system gear mounted on a first system shaft mates with the first peripheral gear portion with first system shaft being offset from the central shaft. The first power disc element also has a second peripheral gear portion in the vicinity of the rim extending forwardly of the first power disc element. A second power disc element has a plurality of outer drive gears mounted for rotation to a rearwardly facing surface, positioned to mate with the second peripheral gear portion on the first power disc element. A central gear is fixed to the central shaft and mates with the outer drive gears on the second power disc element.

  • Patent number: 6165094
Abstract: A vehicle power transmission and a vehicle powertrain capable of being continuously controlled over a predetermined range of operation. The powertrain includes two power units, the power transmission unit and a control device for receiving command input and determining performance parameters associated with the operation of the powertrain, an outer transmission and an inner differential gear assembly. The main transmission has two rotatable inputs, each operable connected to one power unit for receiving rotational power and operably connected to a rotatable output so that the rotational speed of the output can vary in proportion to the algebraic mean of the speeds of ratios of the two inputs. The differential gear assembly is arranged internally of the main transmission with a rotatable input operably connected to two differentially rotatable outputs. The output of the main transmission is operably connected to the input of the differential gear assembly.

  • Patent number: 5993347
Abstract: A gear train for 6-speed automatic transmissions used in vehicles includes a compound planetary gear set, realized through combining first and second planetary gear sets in a radial direction, the second simple planetary gear set being enclosed by a ring gear of the first simple planetary gear set, the ring gear able to act as a sun gear for the second simple planetary gear set, and having five operational elements. A clutch assembly is mounted between at least three of the five operational elements of the compound planetary gear set and an input shaft, and operates to select the operational elements to be input elements. A brake assembly is mounted between at least three of the five operational elements of the compound planetary gear set and a transmission housing, and operates to select the operational elements to be reaction elements.

  • Patent number: 5800305
Abstract: A reduction gear can provide a relatively large reduction gear ratio by changing the number of gear teeth but without increasing the number of gears, thereby simplifying the structure thereof. The power transmission flow in the reduction gear occurs as follows. In one embodiment, power simultaneously flows to both a first sun gear and to a second sun gear. From the first sun gear, power flows through, in succession, a planetary gear, a ring gear, a carrier and finally to an output ring gear and output shaft. From the second sun gear, power successively flows through a first differential gear and a second differential gear to the output ring gear and the output shaft. In another embodiment, power flows, in succession, through an input sun gear, a first differential gear and a second differential gear, to simultaneously both a differential sun gear and to a differential ring gear.
