    Abstract: Disclosed is a continuously variable transmission including: a pair of pressing means that form a torque transmission contact region in a disk overlapping area where the input disk and the output disk are overlapped; a support shaft installed with the pressing means; a first support portion that tiltably supports one end side of the support shaft; a second support portion that is positioned in an upstream side of a rotation direction of the input disk from the pressing means and tiltably supports the other end side of the support shaft; and shift means that shifts the second support portion along the connecting line, wherein the pressing means is tilted together with the support shaft, and the first support portion and the pressing means move in synchronization with movement of the second support portion when the second support portion is shifted by the shift means along the connecting line.

    Abstract: In a transmission having an input disk installed on an input shaft and an output disk installed on an output shaft, a pair of pressure rollers is provided to be movable along a two-axes connecting line of the axes of the input and output shafts, within a disk overlapping area that the input and output disks overlap with each other. The pressure roller pair is configured to sandwich the input and output disks while applying contact pressure from the outside disk faces at a position corresponding to a required transmission ratio, for creating a torque-transmission contacting portion by elastic deformation of the disks. A biasing device is provided for producing a biasing force from which the contact pressure arises. A biasing-force adjustment device is also provided for adjusting the biasing force to produce an appropriate magnitude of contact pressure suited to a shifting condition.

    Abstract: A single drive ring CVT coupler. Opposing inclined planar sides on outer circumferences of the drive ring have a high friction coefficient for enhanced engagement and power transmission between the pulleys and the drive ring. The drive ring rotationally operates between the cooperating pulleys of a moveable sheave CVT transmission. The opposing sides are inclined at an angle to each other for proper fit between the sheaves of the driver pulley and driven pulley. The drive ring operates between the outboard portions of each pulley. In an alternate embodiment, a drive ring operates in a bearing and is retained between the driver and driven pulleys by a retainer that spans between the pulley shafts. The drive ring comprises inclined opposing frictional sides on outer circumferences for frictionally engaging the sheave sides of a driver pulley and driven pulley. The drive ring operates between the inboard portions of the driver and driven pulleys.

The coupling system includes an input disk mounted to an input shaft that is driven by the motor and in turn drives the downstream roller and having a thickness gradually reduced from a center portion to the peripheral edge, and an output disk mounted to an output shaft that drives the upstream roller and having a thickness gradually reduced from a center portion to the peripheral edge thereof. A pair of cramp disks are mounted on a floating shaft which is manually movable between the input disk and the output disk to change the center distance between the floating shaft and both of the input and output shafts.
