Abstract: In a slippage prevention apparatus of a belt-drive continuously variable transmission for an automotive vehicle in which a transmission ratio is controlled by a speed-change hydraulic pressure brought closer to a desired speed-change hydraulic pressure, a quick-acceleration-frequency decision section is provided to determine whether a frequency of quick accelerating operations is low or high. Also provided is a desired hydraulic pressure decision section that sets the desired speed-change hydraulic pressure used during an operating mode that the frequency of quick accelerating operations is low to a relatively lower pressure level than the desired speed-change hydraulic pressure used during an operating mode that the frequency of quick accelerating operations is high.

Abstract: A shift control apparatus for an automatic transmission eliminates or reduces a sense of discomfort to the driver and other occupants during slip, while maintaining the necessary driving force. When slip is determined by detection of wheel speed, a slip signal is output. A controller which receives the slip signal outputs a maintaining signal for maintaining the gear stage which existed at the time the slip signal was received, until a predetermined period of time has passed. If the slip continues after the predetermined period of time, the controller outputs a shift signal to the automatic transmission to shift it to a predetermined gear stage, thus reducing driving force and preventing slip from continuing. If the slip stops within the predetermined period of time, the slip signal is canceled such that the current gear stage is maintained and no shift is executed.

The manual shift mode determines a gear ratio of the automatic transmission by a driver's intention. The highest gear control means controls the automatic transmission, so that the smallest gear ratio set by the manual shift mode is smaller than the smallest gear ratio set by the automatic shift mode. Abstract: A shift control apparatus for an automatic transmission is provided in which, during slip, a sense of discomfort to the driver and other occupants is eliminated or reduced and the necessary driving force is obtained. When slip is detected by detecting the speed of the wheels by wheel speed detecting means, slip determining means outputs a slip signal. Maintaining means into which the slip signal has been input then outputs to shifting means a maintaining signal for maintaining the gear stage (for example, first speed) at the point during which the slip signal was input until a predetermined period of time has passed. If slip continues after the predetermined period of time has passed, the shifting means outputs a shift signal to the automatic transmission to shift it to a predetermined gear stage (for example, third speed), thus reducing driving force and preventing slip from continuing.

  • Patent number: 6394931
Abstract: A method and system of controlling a maximum start gear ratio of an automated mechanical transmission system is disclosed. To protect the clutch under conditions of level ground up to a mild grade, a maximum starting gear is determined by the system when a valid Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of the vehicle is known. The maximum starting gear is defined as the highest starting gear ratio that will provide adequate startability without having to put excessive energy into the clutch during the start. The system will force a downshift if insufficient vehicle acceleration is detected by the system. If the GCW of the vehicle is not known, the maximum start gear will be limited to that for a fully laden vehicle. To protect against too much power being transmitted through the clutch, the power through the clutch is determined and the engine torque and/or engine speed is limited to values resulting in power through the clutch below a preset value.

Abstract: In the case where a cooperative gear change control of an automatic transmission is executed on the basis of information with respect to a condition around a vehicle or in front of a vehicle, in a cooperative gear change control means, a gear change of the automatic transmission is directly determined on the basis of actual curve information and road surface inclination information in accordance with a previously stored downshift map, and a gear stage is switched such that a determined gear change is executed. Therefore, it is possible to directly obtain the gear stage or the gear ratio corresponding to the curve of the road and the inclination of the road surface.

Abstract: A control system for an automatic transmission of a vehicle is disclosed. The automatic transmission operates in a manual operating mode in which a shift position of the automatic transmission can be changed according to a shift instruction issued by a driver of the vehicle, or in an automatic operating mode in which the shift position is automatically selected. In the control system, a slow running intention of the driver is detected. A first shift position is set to a starting shift position at the time of starting the vehicle when the slow running intention of the driver is not detected in the manual operating mode. A second shift position which is lower in transmission gear ratio than the first shift position is set to the starting shift position when the slow running intention of the driver is detected in the manual operating mode.

Abstract: A method for influencing a shift process connected with a change in transmission ratio when driving a motor vehicle that has a set of driven wheels subject to longitudinal and transverse forces, the method including detecting whether or not the vehicle is traveling around a curve and, if doing so when the shift process is in progress, influencing the shift process so as to decrease the longitudinal forces that act on the driven wheels as a result of the shift process. Abstract: A system for controlling a speed of a vehicle having a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a cruise controller which controls the traveling speed of the vehicle to a desired speed in response to the instruction to cruise control inputted by the vehicle operator. In the system, the detected throttle opening is smoothed or filtered such that the speed ratio of the continuously variable transmission is controlled based on the smoothed throttle opening and the detected vehicle speed when the instruction to cruise control is input. Alternatively, a parameter indicative of upslope of the road where the vehicle climbs is determined and the speed ratio is controlled based on the parameter and the detected vehicle speed. With this, the system can reduce the engine speed fluctuation and can prevent the vehicle operator from feeling uneasy when the cruise control is effected.
