  • Patent number: 7101326
Abstract: A storable exercise apparatus for home use. The apparatus includes an upright tower, a base structure, a bench frame, and a bench attached to the bench frame. A set of flexible pull lines coupled to a resilient spring system are carried within the tower structure. The user exercises by pulling the pull lines against the bias of the spring system. The grips for the pull lines are mounted at the top of the tower and generate significant tipping force on the tower when the apparatus is in use. To prevent tipping, the bench frame has pivotal and load-transmitting connections with the tower structure; the tower is stabilized by the weight of the user on the bench. The bench may be placed in either a raised or lowered position, and can be stored by collapsing and pivoting it so that it abuts the tower vertically.

  • Patent number: 7094185
Abstract: A self-spotting system for free weights enables the constructive use of such free weights without the need for a spotter. Using a free weight holder sliding along a rail, an adjacent free weight support provides and determines the lowermost travel of the associated free weight. In alternative embodiments, a parallelogram design for the free weight holder is set forth as well as a handle system which may optionally incorporate free weights and allow the use of the self-spotting system for single weights in conjunction with weights coupled to the handle system by a line or cable. Additionally, weight bar restraining and locking systems are set forth which provide secure means by which weightlifting bars can be secured into place, lowering the risk of slippage, dropping and the associated injury and damage that may occur when weights slip or fall.

  • Patent number: 7070546
Abstract: The exercise apparatus of the invention possesses a small footprint, thus enabling its assembly in a relatively small space. It provides in a single unitary apparatus cooperative components that enable at least 325 different positions of exercise. The apparatus includes a rigid metal frame having a box-like quadrilateral rear section detachably secured to a generally triangular front section that provides a pair of rearwardly inclined support bars on which are adjustably mounted holding elements for supporting components such as barbells. Between the quadrilateral rear section and the triangular front section, is a vertical beam having a multiplicity of vertically spaced mounting apertures, the beam functioning to support an adjustable pulley assembly from which eminates a flexible pull cable. By vertical adjustment of the pulley assembly, the pull cable may be elevated or lowered to change the angle at which a force load is imposed on the muscles of an individual using the apparatus.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a base frame of the present invention includes a seat pad, an back pad, two hollow supporting arms pivotably connected at the top thereof, a resisting arm pivotably connected at the front end thereof and a magnetic control resisting mechanism at the bottom thereof. A plurality of pulleys are utilized in combination with two ropes to connect with the supporting arms and the resisting arm so that the user can pull the ropes of the supporting arms or push the resisting arm. By means of the interconnection between the ropes, a flywheel of the magnetic control resisting mechanism will unidirectionally turn to achieve the expected magnetic resistance.

Abstract: Apparatus and Method providing optimal duplication of the double-poling technique used in cross-county skiing. The apparatus includes dual hand grips that are adapted to “wrap” around a user's torso. The dual hand grips are attached by a cable or other suitable connector to a force generator. Because of the shape of the dual hand grips, the user can perform near-ideal double-poling technique in which the dual hand grips are first positioned above and in front of a user, and are then moved in a downward arc with the dual hand grips moving past the body plane to a movement-ending position in back of the person. In the Method of the present invention, a suitable stationary-rowing machine is adapted and modified to exhibit the characteristics of the Apparatus of the present invention. The longitudinal frame of such a stationary-rowing machine is placed in a substantially vertical orientation and the dual hand grips are interlocked with the operator handle of the stationary-rowing machine.

Abstract: An auxiliary exercise apparatus for exercising portions of the upper body is provided for use with a stationary exercise apparatus which exercises the lower body. The auxiliary exercise apparatus has resistance mechanisms which are coupled to actuating means, in turn coupled to handles. The resistance mechanisms are independently actuable and provide exercise for the upper body by resisting motion in the direction of the handles when the handles are pulled. The degree of resistance to motion may be adjusted by changing the tension member providing the resistance, or by adjusting the strength of the tension member by means of external controls.

Abstract: Provided is a weighted cable resistance apparatus, primarily for rehabilitation and therapy, and equally effective for recreational exercising. A frame with a perpendicularly attached seat form a rigid structure. The structure is supported on leveling screws or lockable casters for transport to bed-confined patients. Dead weights within the frame and the rigid seat structure stabilize the apparatus against overturning during use of the apparatus. At each end of the frame is attached a horizontally pivotable assembly, called a ‘module’. Each module contains weights which are, in turn, connected to a cable and to pulleys controlling the cable path. Vertically pivotable arms are mounted on the front of the is modules. The cables are guided to the end of the arms and past the exit pulleys, whereupon exercise tools can be connected. The twin module design provides simultaneous exercising with any two limbs.
