  • Patent number: 8105218
Abstract: An improvement is disclosed for a push-up handle of the type having a cylindrical base rotatably fixed to a grip. The improvement comprises a shell having a convex outer surface and a concave inner surface, and a connector for selectively fixing the grip of the push-up handle to the shell. The shell is adapted to receive the push-up handle therein so that a peripheral portion of the base contacts the inner surface of the shell. As such, with the push-up handle resting in the shell, and with the outer surface of the shell resting on a floor surface, a user may perform push-ups such that the grip imparts rotation to the shell through the contact of the base with the shell. The outer surface contacts the floor surface at essentially a single point, resulting in little effective rotational friction between the grip and the floor surface. The shell tends to maintain a stable position on the floor, resisting tipping.

Abstract: A core-strengthening exercise apparatus is comprised generally of three primary components, namely a pair of identically shaped and configured swing arms each of which is pivotally mounted at or proximate to its midpoint to a substantially C-shaped transverse bar member. The apparatus has two general modes of use. In a first mode of use, referred to as the “static mode”, the subject apparatus may be oriented such that its swing arms rest on the floor with the bar member extending therebetween a distance above the floor to provide a stable gripping surface over which a plurality of exercises may be performed. In a second mode of use, referred to as the “dynamic mode”, the apparatus is flipped over such that only the bar member is in contact with the floor supporting the swing arms there above. In this mode, the user supports his or her upper body in the plank position over the apparatus by grasping either end of each swing arm and resting his or her forearms along the longitudinal axis thereof.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a upper body exercise apparatus that combines upper body movements to achieve assisted push-up and dip exercise. More particularly, the present invention is associated with an exercise apparatus having separately supported platform for a portion of a user combining coordinated upper body exercise with the motion of the platform. When the torso of a user is positioned on the platform, energy storage devices absorb energy during the down stroke of push-up exercise. As the user begins the up stroke, the absorbed energy assists the user during the up stroke. A pair of handles are provided for dip exercise where the lower body contacts the platform. Further, the exercise apparatus provides adjustable energy storage.

Abstract: An accessory device for use with an elliptical cross training machine comprises two like-configured attachments, each of with generally comprises a handle attachment bracket, a substantially horizontal stabilizer bar, a combined palm push pad/handle attachment bracket, a fixed handle, and a push palm pad. The fixed handle and the palm pad are fully and rotatably movable around and about the stabilizer bar. Each is also longitudinally movable along the stabilizer bar to provide inward and outward movement of the fixed handle and the push palm pad relative to the original handle positions of the elliptical cross trainer to which they are attached. The accessory device allows the user to have a combined platform to push from, in a form that is similar to doing a push up from the floor, as well as a fixed point handle that presents to the user at a more natural shoulder angle.

A user can situate the grip bases of a pair of the exercise handles on the floor, grasp their grips, and then perform push-ups. The grip bases can also be mounted to the top of a door or to other overhead structure, and the user can then grasp their grips to perform chin-ups. Preferably, this is done by providing a cradle which mounts to the door or other overhead structure, wherein the exercise handles may be firmly (but removably) nested into the cradles to mount them to the structure. The exercise handles may also bear passages or attachments for receiving elastic (or inelastic) cables for use in performing further exercises.
