Abstract: An abdominal exercise device includes a support structure, a track movable relative to the support structure, a body support member movable relative to the support structure and track, and an adjustable base secured to the support structure. A locking mechanism attaches to the track, and selectively secures the track at a fixed orientation relative to the support structure. In a first state, the locking mechanism restricts the track from rotating relative to the support structure. In a second state, the locking mechanism allows the track to rotate relative to the support structure. In using the exercise device, the user may obtain any of three motions. A first motion is provided by sliding the body support member along the track. A second motion is provided by rotating the track relative to the support structure. A third motion is a combined motion in which the body support slides along the track and the track rotates relative to the support structure.

Abstract: Disclosed is a portable, manually manipulated perturbation device and methods for proprioceptive and reactive balance training and therapy. The perturbation device is manipulated by a person other than the user to impart linear, rotational or tilting movement, or a combination thereof. The device generally comprises a base, a movable assembly positioned on the base and configured to be stood upon by a user. The movable assembly is movable with respect to the base by a manually manipulated assembly connected to the movable assembly. The method generally comprises the steps of providing a perturbation device, positioning a user on the perturbation device and manipulating the perturbation device by a person other than the user to create the linear, rotational, or tilting movement, or a combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 8394005
Abstract: An exercise table which finds use in Pilates exercising includes an outer framework, a slidably movable support platform, and a foot bar against which a user's feet can be engaged while sliding the support platform against the bias of springs by extending and retracting the user's legs. The frame has supporting legs which are tapered inwardly and downwardly so that one exercise table can be nestably stacked on another by inserting the tapered legs of an overlying exercise table through an opening in the frame of an underlying table until the frames themselves are closely adjacent. The foot bar, shoulder blocks, and pulleys used in operation of the table are also movable between elevated use positions and lowered storage positions to facilitate closely adjacent nestable stacking of identical exercise tables. Various systems are disclosed for accommodating different sized individuals while retaining desired resistance from resilient elements incorporated into the table.

Abstract: The Core Trike is a device that provides for rolling instability when engaged with the hands or feet to enhance exercise. The Core Trike offers a “T” shaped platform that has footholds and handles which can be engaged and disengaged easily, thus making it ideal for mixing into exercise circuits. The Core Trike also includes at least one swiveling wheel which allows the device to rapidly course correct and follow the user's movement with ease and accuracy. The “T” shape allows for the wheels to be attached in a triangular pattern. The bottom of the “T” is the front of the Core Trike while being used with the feet, which is the primary use. Since the bottom of the “T” is narrow, it fits between the user's legs with minimal potential for unwanted contact with the user's legs, while providing an attachment point for a swiveling wheel.

  • Patent number: 8287439
Abstract: A manually operated back stretching device may relieve compressive forces of the lower lumbar vertebrae and may safely stretch lower back muscles. The device may include a platform to support a user's lower legs. As the user moves a portion of the device with their arms towards their legs, the forward edge of the platform may rise up and tilt away from the user's torso, causing the user's hips to lift off the floor and stretching the user's back at the same time. As the user moves their arms back over their head, the user's back and legs may relax while the arms are pulled above the user's head. The result may be a back-and-forth dynamic rotational arching motion to repetitively raise the completely relaxed hips and tilt them forward to decompress the spine using appropriate longitudinal and torsion forces at the most pain causing compression points of the lower lumbar vertebrae.

  • Patent number: 8235876
Abstract: An abdominal training apparatus provides focused training on the abdominal muscles using a resistance provided by a resistance device. The user may be supported in an elevated position by a seat support. A cable may transfer the resistance from the resistance device to the user. One or more pulleys may guide the resistance such to the user such that a force vector below and away from the user is provided to the user. In use, the user may perform abdominal training by engaging or grasping the cable to engage the resistance. The user may also support or secure one or both legs using a leg support of the apparatus. The force vector of the resistance is highly beneficial in that it allows the resistance to target and strengthen the abdominal muscles.
