Abstract: An indoor exercise bicycle having a magnetic brake. The magnetic brake system has a pair of parallel arms each having a set of magnets. The pair of parallel arms moves along a track in a radial direction relative to the axis of the flywheel. The pair of parallel arms move toward and away from the flywheel not via a pivoting action. Instead, the pair of parallel arms moves linearly towards and away from the flywheel.

  • Patent number: 9492700
Abstract: A resistance adjusting apparatus includes a seat having a first shaft, a resistance supplier, and an adjusting assembly. The resistance supplier is mounted in the seat and has a second shaft. The adjusting assembly is mounted on the seat and has a tube, a regulating rod, and a pressing block. The regulating rod is moveably mounted through the tube. The pressing block is mounted on a bottom end of the regulating rod, is connected to the seat, and is located between the first shaft and the second shaft. Therefore, a displacement of the resistance supplier is longer than a displacement of the pressing block, and the sensitivity of the resistance adjustment is increased.

  • Patent number: 8834324
Abstract: An exercise bicycle including a frame supporting a wheel such as a flywheel. A brake assembly (or resistance assembly) including a brake arm is pivotally coupled with the frame. The brake arm assembly includes a brake pad engaging the flywheel to alter the power needed to rotate the flywheel during exercise. A brake adjustment assembly is operably coupled with the brake arm. The adjustment assembly includes a shaft rotatably supported on the frame and mounted to be translated toward the flywheel while being restricted from translating away from the flywheel. A spring is positioned between the threaded shaft and the brake arm whereby rotation of the shaft increases or decreases compression of the spring thereby increasing or decreasing a frictional force between the brake pad and the flywheel.

Abstract: A recumbent stepper includes a frame, a pair of lever arms, pedals, pulleys, flexible members, springs and adjustable resistance devices The pair of lever arms are pivotally attached to the frame and are movable from a retracted position to an extended position. Pedals are attached to each lever arm. The pair of pulleys are rotatably attached to the frame. The pair of flexible members are attached between the lever arms and pulleys and are wound around the pulley when the lever arm is in the retracted position and deploys as the lever arm moves to the extended position. Springs are operably attached to each pulley such that each lever arm is biased to the retracted position. Adjustable resistance devices are operably connected to each pulleys whereby increasing the resistance on the pulley increases the force required to move the lever from the retracted position toward the extended position.

  • Patent number: 6491606
Abstract: The present invention is a spin bike pedal load changing means, and foot rest means for use in stationary training, that collectively greatly improves the capabilities of spin bikes over what is currently available in the art. The pedal load changing means allows the calibration of a range of pedal working loads, tailored to the individual rider's capabilities and at the same time can be used as an emergency brake. The foot rest allows for the safe parking of the rider's free leg during one-legged cycling training. The foot rest feature and pedal load change features both effectively increase the performance and safety of the spin bike in use, which is a much-desired feature for health clubs and gyms. The spin bike further allows the instructor to carry out a group class exercise routine, where each rider can set the pedal load changing means on each spin bike to fit their individual strength and stamina capabilities and also allows the rapid changing of pedal load settings to predetermined levels.
