Gripping Portion Engages Tool Simultanous With Tool Rotating In Spindle Patents (Class 483/900)
  • Patent number: 7578776
Abstract: A machine tool is provided with a bit-changing apparatus including a cam, a rocker, a roller, a linkage, a pulling element, a disc and clips. The cam is attached to the machine tool. The roller is attached to the rocker and movable against the cam. The linkage includes two connecting rods each formed with an end pivotally connected to the machine tool and another end pivotally connected to the rocker. The pulling element is provided between the rocker and the machine tool so that the roller is kept against the cam. The disc is rotationally supported on the rocker. Each of the clips is attached to the disc and used to clip a holder for holding a bit so that a selected bit can be engaged with a bit-driving unit of the machine tool.

  • Patent number: 7063654
Abstract: Machining is possible in such a manner that an optional position of a workpiece is positioned just under a tool by rotation of a turn table in a C-axis direction and movement of a spindle on a Y-Z plane, so that a width of a main unit in a X-axis direction can be made shorter in comparison with machining by moving the turn table in the X-axis direction. Besides, the turn table located on a front side of the main unit, an ATC located on the rear side thereof, and a separated control panel located on the rear side of the ATC, independent from the main unit can also make the width of a machining centre in the X-axis direction shorter.

  • Patent number: 6949057
Abstract: A multi-function end effector includes a plurality of tool change mechanisms in a housing in which a spindle is also mounted for translation along an axis of the spindle. Each tool change mechanism has a gripper that releasably grips a tool holder in which a tool is mounted. The gripper of each tool change mechanism is movable between a stowed position to a tool-change position in which the gripper is coaxially aligned with the axis of the spindle for placing a tool holder held in the gripper in a position to be received by the spindle and for positioning the gripper to receive a tool holder from the spindle. The tools mounted in the tool holders include a drill bit, a countersink tool, and a fastener insertion tool. The end effector also includes a fastener feed system, a hammer device, and a sealant applicator.

  • Patent number: 6183404
Abstract: A machine tool (10) has a spindle (11) for receiving a tool (15) for machining a workpiece (16). A mechanism (17) for clamping the workpiece (16) is also provided. Also provided is a changing mechanism (37) for a machining tool (29), which holds the machining tool (29) in a gripper hand (38) which it introduces laterally into a workpiece cavity (21) in such a way that it can be automatically coupled there to an adapter tool (32) carried by the spindle (11).

  • Patent number: 5263918
Abstract: A machine tool has a spindle rotating in a headstock and has, further, a gripper for transferring a toolholder from an uncoupled position into a ready-to-couple position within the spindle. A coupling mechanism is provided for further transferring the toolholder from the ready-to-couple position to a couple position within the spindle in which the toolholder can be rigidly connected to the spindle for rotation therewith. In order to control the transferring steps, a sensor is provided for detecting whether the toolholder is in its couple position.
