Patent number: 5458776Abstract: A centrifuge for dewatering a fluent aggregate material such as sand. Sand slurry is conducted into a rotating cylindrical drum which has a perforated lateral wall against which a screen is placed. The drum is oriented with the axis disposed vertically. When the centrifuge operates, centrifugal action slings slurry poured into the drum outwardly. Upon contacting the lateral wall, the slurry builds up. When a certain quantity of the slurry has built up at the bottom or floor of the cylinder, additional material cannot resist migrating upwardly. Thickness of the trapped layer varies, being greater at the floor, near the source of the incoming slurry. This trapped layer forms a bed having an inclined wall. Thickness of the bed at the top of the cylinder is determined by a circumferential, inwardly projecting flange or dam located at the top of the cylindrical drum. The sand bed protects metal parts of the centrifuge from abrasion, and also enables water to diffuse therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1993Date of Patent: October 17, 1995Assignee: Haahjem North American, Inc.Inventors: Mark A. Patent number: 5436539Abstract: A power window system employs a computer based control that receives signals from a window position sensor. As the window moves, the position sensor produces periodic signals as an output. The computer cyclically looks for a change in the frequency of the signals as an indication that the window is obstructed and decelerating. Based on the instantaneous deceleration, the computer recalls a stored value for motor force. The recalled forces are accumulated in synchronism with the position sensor output during the deceleration, manifesting the force applied to the obstruction as the window presses on it. The window is reversed when the accumulated force exceeds a stored value. The uppermost window position is a stored value for the position sensor output obtained when the window is closed for the first time. Each time the window is closed thereafter, an offset is added to that value, the sum defining the point at which the window engages the window seal.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1993Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Assignee: United Technologies Automotive, Inc.Inventors: Bruce R. Patent number: 5428923Abstract: The light beam in an obstruction detector is coded into packets of pulses by a transmitter according to a code generated only by the transmitter. When the light beam is received, the receiver recovers the code signal and supplies it to a code detection circuit. In one preferred embodiment, to detect the code, the code detection circuit supplies the code signal and a delayed version of the code signal to an "exclusive or" gate. In another embodiment, a frequency detection circuit determines whether the code signal detected by the receiver is within a predetermined permissible range. If the code is not present, the door operator system reverses the door if it is closing, and prevents the door from closing if it already is in the up position, or if it is opening. The door operator system will operate in this way not only in response to obstructions, but also, in response to errors and malfunctions in the wiring to the transmitter and receiver, and in the transmitter and receiver themselves.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1993Date of Patent: July 4, 1995Assignee: GMI Holdings, Inc.Inventor: Dennis W. Patent number: 5142822Abstract: A safety arrangement for an automatic door operator wherein the door edge has mounted thereon a stretched electrically conductive cable which, when deflected upon encountering an obstruction, will change the inductance of a loop of which the cable forms a part. A capacitor is in parallel with this loop so that the capacitor together with the inductance of the loop form a resonant tank circuit. The tank circuit is electrically driven by a voltage controlled oscillator. The phase of the loop current is compared with the phase of the voltage across the capacitor and the phase difference is utilized to control the voltage controlled oscillator to maintain the tank circuit in resonance (i.e, zero phase difference). The detection of a sudden change in phase difference, which occurs when the loop inductance is suddenly changed due to the encountering of an obstruction by the door edge, results in the generation of an obstruction signal for activating the safety feature of the door operator.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1991Date of Patent: September 1, 1992Assignee: Atlas Roll-Lite Door CorporationInventor: Howard L. Patent number: 5138182Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a power window capable of maintaining an energized state of the motor to move a window glass, detecting a locked-rotor current flowing through the motor when the window glass reaches a limit position, and de-energizing the motor to stop the movement of the window glass when the locked-rotor current becomes larger than a predetermined value. The period of time for energization of the motor is longer than a period of time from a moment at which the "ON" operation of the automatic mode switch is cancelled to a moment at which the window glass reaches the limit position. It is thereby possible to automatically de-energize the motor when the window glass reaches the limit position, even if the locked-rotor current does not become larger than the predetermined value at this time due to the influence of temperatures or other causes.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1989Date of Patent: August 11, 1992Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Tokai-Rika-Denki-SeisakushoInventor: Sadao Kokubu
