  • Patent number: 8429853
Abstract: A boat has an outside pocket door that opens to provide a passageway large enough for a person to pass. Of particular interest are sliding doors that utilize a traveler and a guide, each positioned on one of the door and the housing, having tolerances that severely restrict side to side movement of a distal edge of the door under normal operating conditions. The guide can advantageously comprise a track and rollers, and the traveler can comprises a foot disposed to travel between opposing ones of the rollers. In such embodiments the rollers can advantageously be mounted in spaced apart opposing pairs on a guide, using off-set centers to adjust the tolerances. Sliding doors can be operated in any suitable manner, manually or otherwise, and it is especially contemplated that sliding doors can be operated using a pneumatic ram.

  • Patent number: 8176677
Abstract: An automated guide rail apparatus includes a fixed wall that includes a pair of vertical supports attached to and extending upwardly from a floor surface and a horizontal support attached to the vertical supports. The fixed wall is positioned adjacent to a hazardous area. A movable wall is attached to the fixed wall and is movable laterally toward or extended away from the fixed wall to increase or decrease a combined length of the fixed and movable walls. The movable wall prevents access to the hazardous area when the movable wall is extended away from the fixed wall. A drive assembly is mounted on the fixed wall and moves the movable wall outwardly from the fixed wall when the drive assembly is actuated. An actuating assembly is in communication with the drive assembly to actuate the drive assembly when a hazardous condition is determined by the actuating assembly.

  • Patent number: 8079179
Abstract: A sliding door structure comprises at least one door or plate (12), and a substantially horizontally arranged track device (13). The track device (13) includes a stationary track part (14) and at least one door carrier (16) for carrying the door. The door carrier is supported by the stationary track part (14) at one or more supporting points and displaceable horizontally in relation to said track part between first and second opposite positions. The door (12) is connected to the track device (13) such that the center of gravity of the door or plate (12) is spaced horizontally from the adjacent supporting point by a distance being a substantial fraction of the width of the door or plate (12). Thus, the door (12) is supported by the carrier (16) in a cantilever-like manner and the length of the track (13) may be reduced to a value substantially corresponding to the width of the door opening (11).

Abstract: A vertically collapsible weather resistant barrier for an opening, having a plurality of side frames secured along the height of side walls and/or an intermediate post defining the opening. Each side frame has a longitudinal channel along its length facing inward toward the opening. The channel accommodates sheaves extending from the barrier and by which a ceiling mounted pulley system may house and lower the barrier with the side frame. The barrier comprises a plurality of pantograph structures at opposite ends of a plurality of panels. The arms of the pantograph structure closest to the side walls house a locking mechanism thereon facing the side frame at either end of the arm that engages a latch in and a proximate arm to pull them into tight vertical alignment when substantially fully extended.

Abstract: An overhead door cable assembly includes a length of cable having first and second ends and a metal stop permanently molded proximate the first end of the length of cable. A molded metal stop, preferably formed of aluminum, may be secured at both ends of the cable. An overhead door cable assembly may be formed by a method that comprises providing a length of cable having first and second ends and positioning a portion of the length of cable proximate to the first end into a mold cavity. A molten metal material, preferably aluminum, is introduced into the mold cavity and allowed to cool, thereby forming a metal stop permanently molded to the cable. The overhead door cable assemblies of the invention may be utilized in a method of counterbalancing an overhead door.

  • Patent number: 7055160
Abstract: A computer is disclosed. The computer includes a housing having an opening. The computer also includes a door that is movably coupled to the housing via a linkage mechanism. The linkage mechanism allows the door to move between a closed position where the door is placed against the housing and in front of the opening to prevent access therethrough, and an opened position where the door is placed away from the opening to allow access therethrough. The computer further includes a gimbal mechanism that allows the door to move relative to the linkage mechanism while constraining the door to the linkage mechanism. The gimbal mechanism provides a tight fit between the door and the housing when the door is in the closed position.
