Publication number: 20100005724Abstract: A movable barrier operator (200) comprises a motor (201) having an output drive shaft that itself comprises a first end (202) and a second end (203) that is disposed opposite to the first end. The movable barrier operator also comprises a hand-operated chain hoist (204) that is connected to the second end of this output drive shaft. By one approach, the movable barrier operator also comprises a reduction mechanism (207) and a transmission (210). The reduction mechanism is disposed parallel to and laterally of the motor and comprises a movable barrier drive shaft (208) and an input drive shaft (209). The transmission, in turn, is disposed to couple the first end of the output drive shaft of the motor to the input drive shaft of the reduction mechanism.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2008Publication date: January 14, 2010Applicant: CHAMBERLAIN AUSTRALIA PTY. Publication number: 20020088181Abstract: A gate includes a gate panel mounted on a post which provides a horizontal pivot where the pivot axis is at right angles to the gate panel and adjacent or at a bottom corner of the gate panel. The gate is carried on one side of the post so that the gate can be pulled in pivotal movement around the horizontal pivot axis so that the gate raises and folds inwardly beyond the mounting pivot to a retracted position standing up alongside the post. A winch assembly attached to the support beyond the post provides a cable which attaches to the panel at a position spaced outwardly and upwardly from the pivot so as to pull the panel to the raised position. A spring coiled at the pivot biases the panel to a mid point of its movement.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2001Publication date: July 11, 2002Inventor: David Friesen

Patent number: 6170196Abstract: One end of a connection wire is connected to a rear vehicle door which can be popped up by an urging force from a user. An apparatus for maintaining the position of the upwardly swinging rear door once it is opened at a desired angle includes a pulley for receiving the other end of the connection wire wound around it. A power spring urges the pulley in a connection wire-winding direction. A one-way clutch includes a rotatable outer ring with an input shaft at the center thereof. The input shaft is connected to the pulley. The input shaft is also connected to the outer ring through multiple rollers interposed between the outer ring and the input shaft so that the pulley is allowed to rotate in the connection wire-winding direction. In maintaining the upwardly swinging rear door at a desired angle once it is opened, a solenoid is energized to move a stopper into an engaging groove on the periphery of the outer ring. When the stopper engages the engaging groove, the rotation of the outer ring is restricted.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1997Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: Toyota Shatai Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kenji Kato

Patent number: 5896702Abstract: An operator for opening and closing pivotal windows comprises at least two pull and pressure transferring, flexible linkage mechanisms (3,4) connected at one end to a fixture (5,6) on a frame member and at the opposite end in engagement with a driving device (12-17) mounted on the opposite main frame member (2). The driving device is common to the linkage mechanisms and is together with the parts of the linkage mechanisms engaging it mounted in a common housing (7) for receiving the entire length of the linkage mechanisms (3,4) and provided with guides (8,9) and lead-in openings (8a,9a) for the linkage mechanisms (3,4). A carrier element (10,11) in connection with the guides is via transmission elements (12-16) in the housing 87,28; 54) connected with a common driving unit (17).Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1996Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Assignee: V. Patent number: 5067276Abstract: A semi-automatic gate may be opened from a vehicle by pulling on a line attached to a counterbalance control mechanism. The counterbalance control mechanism comprises a cylinder having a damper-controlled flow of water arrangement which allows an enclosed quantity of water to shift when the gate is opened and to then slowly return past the damper to effect a subsequent gate closing. Water is also used within the gate support structure to provide an additional shifting of weight when the gate is opened or closed.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1991Date of Patent: November 26, 1991Inventor: Kenneth R. Brandt, Sr.
