Abstract: A vehicle includes a pair of opposing-hinged doors having a first door and a second door. The first and second doors each include a tumblehome portion that extends inboard of a first rotation axis and a second rotation axis respectively. The first door and second doors are disposed adjacent each other when in a closed position, and define a gap between the tumblehome portions of the first and second doors. An appliqué is moveably attached to one of the doors, and is moveable between a sealing position and a withdrawn position. When in the sealing position, the appliqué extends across the gap. When in the withdrawn position, the appliqué is spaced from one of the doors, thereby allowing the doors to simultaneously rotate open in opposite directions without the tumblehome portions of the doors contacting or otherwise interfering with each other.

  • Patent number: 8052191
Abstract: A hinged vapor wall for use in mobile living quarters having a main living area and a secondary area such as a garage. The vapor wall has a first and second section that overlap to form a barrier between the garage and the main living area. When the sections of the vapor wall are in their closed position, the main living area and the garage area are divided into separate airtight compartments. Typically, small vehicles such as motorcycles and ATVs are placed in the garage, and the fumes from their fuel may spread into the main living space in the absence of a barrier. A permanent barrier sacrifices space within the main living area. The hinged vapor wall of this invention is movable to an open position when small vehicles are not being stored in the garage, enabling the garage to be used as living space as well.

Abstract: A refrigerator display case having a plurality of insulated glass window panels mounted in side-by-side relation for pivotal movement about an upper horizontal pivot axis. Each of the window panels has a substantially all glass front appearance, unencumbered by external hardware, trim or moldings. To achieve such appearance, the upper spacer element of the window panel is in the form of a pivot bar completely concealed by an outer glass pane of the panel, but which has an exposed underside mounting surface to which a hinge plate is connected. Each window panel has side sealing members secured to respective side spacers and with a blade portion extending outwardly from the peripheral edges of the glass panes of the window panel for side-by-side sealing engagement with the side sealing members of adjacent window panels when the window panels are in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5581946
Abstract: Disclosed is a door sealing mechanism for sealing the gap between two doors or that gap between one door and the doorframe so as to prevent leakage of the inside conditioned air to the outside or entrance of the outside dust, smoke, and insects into the room. The sealing mechanism includes a blocking mechanism enclosed in a sidepiece provided on the first door and consisted of a blocking member, a movable member supporting the block member, and elastic element means coupled to the movable member. On the opposite side, a curved recess or a cushioning mechanism is provided that receives the blocking member. When the door unit is closed, the blocking member comes into air-tight contact with the curved recess or the cushioning mechanism due to the elasticity of the elastic element; and when opening the door unit, the blocking member can slide away smoothly. Furthermore, with the provisions of bumping members, noises generated by metal collisions when opening or closing the door unit is substantially eliminated.

Abstract: A door seal has a base portion comprising straight sections joined at their ends to form corner joints with another section, at least four first seal sections each of which are disposed at a respective one of the corner joints, and a plurality of second seal portions each having a length that extends between a spaced pair of the first seal sections. The first seal sections comprise a pair of spaced lip seals, whereas the second seal sections comprise a lip seal and a compression seal. The seal avoids the problem of undesirable compression seal distortion at the corners joints.

  • Patent number: 5411328
Abstract: A refrigerator has a body forming a compartment, and first and second doors mounted in side-by-side relationship on the body for closing the compartment. Each door is hinged along an outer vertical edge thereof such that the inner vertical edges of the doors face one another and form a gap when the doors are closed. In order to prevent cool air loss through that gap, a leak prevention member is hinged on the back side of the first door for rotation about a vertical axis. When the first door is closed, a pin on the leak prevention member engages a guide groove formed on the body for rotating the leak prevention member to an operative position in which it extends across the gap to resist cool air leakage. A locking element carried by the leak prevention member locks the leak prevention element against rotation to its operative position while the first door is open.

  • Patent number: 5319882
Abstract: An angulated door assembly affording reduced entry and exit time and motion therethrough. Each door is angulated relative to the adjacent walls and/or the conventional path of ingress/egress therethrough. Such an assembly configuration affords increased sealing capacity as well as convenience for the user. The door opens and closes faster by swinging less than a conventional door, which presents itself orthogonally to the path of ingress/egress. By utilizing a pair of angulated doorways, the doors self-seal against each other while providing the advantages of angulated disposition relative to the path of ingress/egress.

  • Patent number: 5309680
Abstract: A magnetic seal is disclosed for releasably sealing two doors arranged side by side on a thermally insulated cabinet such as a refrigerator or freezer. A retainer gasket is affixed to the inner edge of each door. One of the retainer gasket encloses a magnet and retains the magnet fixed in place relative to the door. Another retainer gasket is affixed to the other door and is formed of a base, a sleeve enclosing a second magnet, and two flexible webs connecting the sleeve to the base. The retainer gaskets and magnets are arranged so that the magnets impart an attractive force on each other and releasably seal the doors. When one of the doors is opened slightly, the magnets are arranged to repel each other and assist in easily opening at least one of the doors. Finally, a magnet having more than two magnetic poles may be used to assist in sealing and opening at least one of the doors.

  • Patent number: 5240349
Abstract: A power mine door system including a door frame to be installed in a mine passageway to define a generally rectangular doorway. A mine door is defined by a pair of generally rectangular door leafs which are hinged on the door frame at opposite sides of the doorway for swinging between an open position to permit passage through the doorway and a closed position in which the door leafs are generally coplanar and close the doorway. The door leafs are so dimensioned that there is a substantial vertical gap between the door leafs when they are closed to accommodate convergence of side walls of the passageway. A relatively wide vertical sealing flap is secured to one of the door leafs for overlapping a face of the other door leaf when the door is closed for covering the gap between the door leafs.
