Sliding Closures Patents (Class 49/370)
  • Patent number: 4604826
Abstract: A solid state integrated regulating circuitry for incorporation in the conventional control circuitry of automatic sliding door systems includes timing and processing circuits operative through plural inverters to deliver enabling and disenabling electrical signals to the control circuitry when the elapsed time between cycles of door opening and closing actuations are greater or less than a predetermined time respectively either to prematurely terminate or to have no altering effect upon door opening actuation, thereby to open the doors to a reduced width during low traffic conditions and to open the doors to a full width during high traffic conditions.

  • Patent number: 4572156
Abstract: A fireplace screen assembly arrangement is disclosed which includes a frame assembly upon which glass doors and a pair of mesh doors are mounted for slideable lateral movement between closed and open positions with respect to an associated frame assembly and fireplace. The mesh doors are latched in a closed position, and automatically move to lateral full open positions under the influence of a weight and chain mechanism. When the mesh doors are moved to a closed position of rest, a door and frame latching mechanism engages to hold them in that position. In that position, they are ready to open fully when an operator knob is moved to release the latching mechanism. In this manner, convenient use of the fireplace is enhanced, with the mesh door-opening mechanism permitting a user to easily open the mesh doors for gaining access to the fireplace area.

  • Patent number: 4544198
Abstract: An automotive vehicle has a single integral door opening on each side of the door body. The door opening is closed by a pair of front and rear doors which are slidable along the vehicle side to open and close the door opening. The rear edge of the front sliding door and the front edge of the rear sliding door directly oppose each other without a vehicle body pillar therebetween. The opposing edges of the sliding doors have seals for water-proofing. Also, the upper edges of the sliding doors sealingly contact seals mounted on vehicle side frames extending along upper edge of the door opening for water-proofing. Guide rails slidingly supporting the sliding doors are mounted on the side frames in such a manner that they serve to reinforce the side frames. Lower seals are provided between the lower edges of the front and rear doors and the lower side frames for establishing water-tight seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4475313
Abstract: Sliding doors of increased strength, stability and resistance to the elements include on the normally inactive sliding door panel top and bottom vertical axis locking bolts which engage in apertures at the top of the door frame and sill. An intermediate level swinging bolt on the active sliding door panel is used in conjunction with an adjacent anti-lift tab also on the active sliding door panel. This tab and the locking extension of the swinging bolt are received in apertures formed in the adjacent stile of the inactive door panel to achieve secure locking of the sliding panels in closed positions. All of the bolts of the system are disposed within the opposing interfitting vertical stiles of the active and inactive sliding panels adjacent to tongue and groove portions thereof. The locking arrangement can be utilized on sliding door systems containing four or more panels.

  • Patent number: 4360991
Abstract: A room dividing partition includes a plurality of upright utility modules with at least one module being movable to selectively close a span or an opening, thereby separating an area into two smaller units. The movable module comprises an upright rigid structure having a utility depth for storage or other purposes and a plurality of friction reducing rollers which engage one or more tracks positioned along the floor. In order to stabilize the module and prevent tipping, a guide rail extends between side walls of the area across the opening. A rail engaging gaff projects from the movable module with the gaff being movable along the rail when the module is moved. The module may include various storage devices such as shelves, cabinetry and self-contained furniture articles such as table or desk tops.

  • Patent number: 4322914
Abstract: A slideable closure construction comprises a frame having a track with a pair of closures slideably mounted therein. The closures include interior end edges which abut in a closed position, and are spaced apart in an open position. A male latch member extends continuously along the length of the end edge of one closure, and a female latch member extends continuously along the end edge of the other closure. The male and female latch members form a snap lock which securely interconnects the two closures in the closed position, and simultaneously forms a weatherproof seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4304071
Abstract: A safety device for a vehicle sliding door which detects any obstacle hindering the door closing movement and which cannot injure a passenger struck by the door. The door closing force is limited to a non dangerous value and the door comprises a tongue groove joint surrounded by a flexible lip joint. An obstacle is first struck by the flexible lips and only after retraction of these lips by the tongue. The presence of this obstacle hinders the penetration of the tongue into the groove and the closing of the door.

  • Patent number: 4267666
Abstract: A device for use in combination with a window unit including a window frame and glass panels mounted in the window frame. The device is comprised of a shutter unit having one or more sets of horizontally and parallel extending tracks which are vertically spaced a distance at least equal to the height dimension of the window unit. The tracks extend parallel to the plane of the glass panel and beyond at least one of the side edges of the window unit. A laminate insulative shield is mounted in the track for movement between positions at the side of the window unit and in front thereof to block off the entirety of the glass panel. The laminate insulative shield includes a frame movably supported on the track and has an imperforate surface layer and an insulation material layer mounted side-by-side in the frame. The imperforate surface provides a rigidifying support for the rather fragile insulation material.

  • Patent number: 4202136
Abstract: A window structure is disclosed wherein the center portion includes sliding panels which have stiles in abutment in their closed positions, such stiles having plates or ribs extending from their inner surfaces which are captured and releasably held by a latch mechanism that is pivotal on one rib and slidable along it. On the exterior of the structure, one of the stiles carries a plate that spans equal areas of both abutting stiles. The latch is symmetrically contoured, whereby observation from either side of the structure does not clarify the edge portion and direction of movement of such portion of the latch that is required in order to operate the latch and permit the sashes to be moved apart. Further, the exterior plate prevents insertion of a tool between the abutting stiles when the sashes are in closed position and latched.

  • Patent number: 4111405
Abstract: Two elongated sealing members are provided to prevent escape of gases from between a movable wall member and an abutting wall member of a metallurgical vessel enclosure. A first elongated sealing member is mounted on the first of the wall members and has a compressible material facing the second of the wall members. A second elongated sealing member is mounted on the second of the wall members and has a blade facing the elongated receiving member. The elongated sealing members are located so that they make contact before the adjoining edges of the wall members are abutted. At least one of said elongated sealing members is movably mounted so that after the elongated sealing members make contact, the wall members may be moved to an abutting position with their adjoining edges touching so as to minimize the effect of heat on said elongated sealing members.
