  • Patent number: 5799443
Abstract: A temporarily installed resilient, shock-absorbent cover to protect the vulnerable parts of doors and door frames, as well as the frames of archways and the furniture that passes therethrough during the process of moving is disclosed. The cover includes a hinge side frame cover temporarily secured to the door. The hinge side frame cover shields the face of the door frame, and also shields a portion of the door. A latch side frame cover protects the latch side portion of the door frame. The latch side frame cover has an angular U shape which covers the forward, inner and rear face of the door frame. The cover is held in place by upper and lower retainer clips which are permanently attached thereto. The clips apply pressure to the wall creating friction to hold the cover in position. In archways where no door is present, both sides of the opening are covered with latch side frame covers.

  • Patent number: 5765311
Abstract: The present invention involves a finger door guard device and method for covering the gap between an open door and its frame. The guard protects children or others from getting their fingers pinched by this gap when the door is moved from an open to a closed position. The guard is comprised of an elongated member having two edges, one of which is pivotally attached to the door frame, and the other of which is free-standing and rests against the surface of the door. The bottom surface of the guard is spring biased to the door frame so that the finger guard is biased to move with the door as it opens and closes. The method involves pivotally attaching a member to a door frame and biasing the surface of the member toward the frame.

  • Patent number: 5702168
Abstract: A damping apparatus for a refrigerator has a first space formed in the interior of a cabinet of the refrigerator, a second space which is separated from the first space by a stopping protrusion and is in communication relation with the first space, a first damping member expandably mounted in the second space, and a protrusion formed on one side of a door for closing the first damping member. When the door is pivoted to be closed, the protrusion closes the first damping member so that the air in the interior of the first damping member is exhausted outside, dampening the reactive force generated in a compartment. On the other hand, when the door is pivoted to be opened, the second damping member is pressed so that the force by the negative pressure in the interior of the compartment is dampened. The damping apparatus for a refrigerator can dampen the force needed when the door is opened or closed.

A bracket including a flat rectangular plate is attached to the front face along the edge near the hinge side of a hinged door at a sufficient height and out of reach from small children, by adhesive or other fastening means. A pair of opposing hinge walls are mounted orthogonally at the extremities on the front face of the rectangular plate. Said stopper means is hingedly attached to the rectangular plate by means of a hinge pin and a restoring spring. When the locking bars are fully retracted, in order to release the hatch for opening, at least selected ones of the locking bars cooperate with opening cam means whereby full retraction of the bars forcibly displaces the hatch in an opening direction with a high mechanical advantage, initially breaking the hatch free of any restricting ice formation or packed debris. Thereafter, the hatch may be readily opened by being manually lifted in a conventional manner. The first portion (22) and second portion (32) cooperatively overlap to block any line of sight.

  • Patent number: 4823510
Abstract: The present invention relats to a security door system for a hinged door and the like. More specifically, this security door system consists of a door, a door frame with a jamb aligned substantially parallel to the door, a plurality of hinges and a security bolt device. The security bolt device consists of two plates positioned on opposing sides of the door and along the hinged edge of the door. A security bolt protrusion positioned on the top side of the interior plate of the security bolt device is inserted into corresponding apertures along the door jamb. When the door is closed, the bolts along the hinged edge are positioned within the apertures to preclude removal of the door by merely removing hinge pins from the door hinges.

  • Patent number: 4815237
Abstract: A sealing arrangement is provided that includes a resilient seal member that is disposed generally parallel to the pivot axis of an access door of an enclosure. The seal member includes a first leg proximate the hinge axis and extending away from the enclosure. When the door is pivoted from an open position toward the closed position, the first leg is displaced toward the enclosure. As the door is further moved toward the closed position, the first leg is additionally displaced, deformed and compressed to provide sealing of the door with respect to the enclosure. The proximity of the seal member to the hinge axis and the arrangement of the first extending leg is such that relative wiping action occurs between the door and the first extending leg. In a preferred arrangement, the seal member also includes a second leg extending from the enclosure.

Abstract: A honeycomb door seal for resiliently sealing a door to a surrounding structure has a semi-rigid base and a plurality of flexible enclosures. A central enclosure, capable of abutting a door, has an outer surface which is connected to a back side member of the seal through a plurality of ribs. A plurality of ribs generally form a common junction at the back side of the structure with each rib extending forwardly at an acute angle with respect to the door contact surface, i.e., the plane of the door. The remaining enclosures are arranged and shaped to provide good recovery and resiliency of the door seal. The seal can be made out of a flexible polymer such as a thermoplastic elastomer or a thermoplastic olefin.

Abstract: A securing device for casement windows or the like includes an abutment member secured to the master frame in the path of motion of an engaging member. The abutment member extends away from the master frame a greater distance at the end of the abutment member nearer to the inner side of the window. The engaging member is mounted to the casement frame and extends away from the casement frame a greater distance at its side closer to the outside of the window. Both the abutment member and engaging member include non-planar contacting surfaces which mate when the window is in its closed position. This arrangement of the abutment member and engaging member also prevents the casement frame from bulging away from the master frame under wind pressure. The securing device is mounted along one side of the window.

Abstract: My invention provides a safety device for bureau drawers, cabinet doors and the like to prevent the accidental injury to fingers. At least one movable stile is provided around at least one opening in the face frame of a container, such as a bureau or cabinet, into which a closure member, such as a drawer or door, is inserted. The stile is pivotally attached to the stationary face frame so that the movable stile will swing into the container opening when pushed. This movement prevents fingers from being jammed between the closure member and the face frame when the closure member is slammed shut. A spring will return the stile to its closed position when the force is removed. In such a manner, the container remains closed, but offers protection against the accidental trapping of the user's fingers.
