  • Patent number: 4998380
Abstract: A corner edge guard for the trailing edge of a swinging closure wherein the trailing edge is defined by surfaces which intersect at approximately 90.degree. to form a corner. The edge guard comprises legs which are also arranged at approximately a 90.degree. angle with the edge guard being disposed in covering a relationship to the corner. The edge guard is constructed and arranged such that concurrently with the fastening of the edge guard to the trailing edge, the distal end of the other leg forcefully bears against the other surface of the trailing edge. Preferably insulating means is disposed between the metal of the edge guard channel and the trailing edge. Various embodiments of corner edge guards are enclosed.

  • Patent number: 4909883
Abstract: A method for installing a non-metallic edge guard on the trailing edge of an automobile door through the use of double back adhesive tape. The tape is first applied to the trailing edge with the side that is toward the edge containing exposed adhesive and the opposite side being covered by a release layer. After the tape has been installed, a portion of the release layer is stripped away from the tape while the remainder of the installed tape remains covered by the release layer. The edge guard is then fitted onto the trailing edge, covering that portion of the tape from which the release layer has been stripped as well as an immediately contiguous portion where the release layer has not been stripped away from the tape.

  • Patent number: 4904508
Abstract: A trim strip suitable for attachment to surfaces requiring highlights, such as edges of vehicle moveable closures including doors and trunk lids, is provided with a light reflective surface portion to outline the edge of the moveable closure member. A decorative continuation to the strip surface can be provided that is visible on the outer surface of the moveable closures such as doors. The strip is transversely and longitudinally deformable in order to conform to the usual radii of a door or other mounting surface, and may be of metal, or plastic or other suitable construction. The strip may embody clear protective finishes to minimize ultra-violet degradation of the colored surface. The strip can serve additionally as edge bumper protection and usually incorporates a pressure sensitive adhesive on the obverse surface thereof. However, mechanical attachment may be used, to attach the strip to the surface being highlighted.

  • Patent number: 4852301
Abstract: One embodiment is of a non-metallic edge guard for the trailing edge of the front door of an automobile in those models where the leading edge of the corresponding rear door, because of the manner in which the rear door is hinged, executes a small component of motion toward the trailing edge of the front door when the rear door is opened. The edge guard's base is thinner than its legs, and the base is thinner toward the inner leg than it is toward the outer leg. Another embodiment has a curved base of reduced thickness over its central region to fit within a gap between the trailing edge of a door and the mating edge of adjacent body structure. The reduced thickness of the base is attained by selective removal of material after the edge guard has been extruded to a basic transverse cross sectional shape. Material is removed mechanically, by grinding or shaving.
