    Abstract: Disclosed is a modular assembly device for providing adequate and efficient ventilation, temperature control, and insulation in poultry houses. The disclosed invention relates to an automated or manually-operated modular shutter system for tunnel ventilation in poultry houses, the system being self-sealed by the poultry house's internal negative static pressure. All the shutters in a modular shutter unit are designed to open and close in unison by means of specially-designed hinges and hinge spacers. In the preferred embodiment, there are four shutters per modular shutter unit, all of the same construction and dimensions. The shutters are designed with beveled horizontal edges and end cap seals, which together provide an efficient and practically airtight fit against each other when closed. The shutters are also of sufficient thickness to accommodate internal insulation if necessary to raise the insulation values needed for the poultry houses in cold winter months.

The slat hinges are mounted to the slats at their lower surface and allow pivoting of the slats between the closed position and an extreme open position by an angle of at least 90°, preferably 110°. The pivoting axis of the slat hinge is disposed substantially under the longitudinal edge of the slat which is overlapped by the adjacent slat. The roof structure may comprise a border slat adapted to be displaced when urged by an adjacent slat when the latter pivots towards its extreme open position.

The dust control device also includes a release mechanism coupled to each of the flights to manually deflect at least selected blades and allow material remaining atop the blade to fall into the receiving pit.

The window shutter apparatus further comprises a hanging strip that includes pivotally attaching the frame member thereto, a compliance strip for attachment to the hanging strip, and a T-strip attached to either the hanging strip or frame member. The compliance strip adjusts for dimensional variations in the side surfaces of the window opening that leave a gap when the hanging strip is placed adjacent thereto.
