  • Patent number: 9260800
Abstract: This disclosure is related to the manufacture of melt blown coreless tubular nonwovens. Such manufacture includes a melt blowing apparatus to deposit fibers onto a rotating mandrel for forming a tubular nonwoven; a puller device to withdraw the tubular nonwoven from the mandrel; and a cutting device to cut the tubular nonwoven into cartridges of a desired length. The puller device has a pair of drive axles mounted on a gap-setting device, such as a scissor jack or its equivalent. Each drive axle includes one or more driven multi-directional puller wheels, which is formed of or surrounded by non-driven rollers. When the rollers engage the rotating tubular nonwoven, the tubular nonwoven is pulled axially and steadily from the mandrel without affecting the rotational motion of the tubular nonwoven. As a result, the tubular nonwovens have consistent dimensions and quality without damage to the inner or outer surfaces of the tube.

  • Patent number: 6375602
Abstract: The bone-hard supercalender roll of the present invention comprises: an elongate shaft having a longitudinal axis; a core layer formed of fibrous material circumferentially covering the shaft; means for compressing the core layer along the shaft longitudinal axis; an intermediate layer circumferentially covering the core layer that comprises a first polymeric resin and a heavy textile material; and an outer layer circumferentially covering the intermediate layer that comprises a second polymeric resin and a reinforcing material. In this configuration, the roll can provide the requisite bone-hard surface for calendering applications, but can do so without the surface denting and marring problems associated with filled rolls and the expense of rolls formed of covered metal cores.

Abstract: Roll and process of manufacturing roll for the smoothing of paper webs, which has a hard roll core including in particular metal. The roll core is provided at its outside with an elastic covering layer which includes an elastic matrix material and fibers embedded into the matrix material. The diameter of the fibers is less than about 800 nm so that the surface of the elastic covering layer has an extremely high smoothness, in particular an Ra value of less than around about 0.6 mm. The thickness of the elastic covering layer amounts to between about 3 and about 20 mm. In addition to the fibers, powdery fillers are embedded in the matrix material whose outer dimensions are each less than about 1 &mgr;m at least in one direction.

Abstract: The present invention provides an elastic body having a small volume change caused by the change in temperature, a roller having a small change in outer diameter thereof caused by an increase in temperature of the roller during operation, a manufacturing method therefor, and a heating and fixing device which can maintain a constant processing speed. The roller has an elastic layer formed by curing a silicone rubber material containing at least expanded resin microballoons, wherein, when the roller is placed in a vacuum chamber in which atmospheric pressure is reduced to 0.001 MPa or less over 2 minutes, the roller has a gas permeability indicating the recovery characteristic where an increased amount of the thickness of the elastic layer after 10 minutes from the start of evacuation is two-thirds or less of the maximum increased amount of the thickness of the elastic layer during a 10 minutes period from the start of evacuation.
