  • Patent number: 5411779
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composite tubular article for use as the fixing belt in an image-forming device such as a copying machine etc., particularly as a fixing belt suited for thermal fixing, and also relates to a process for producing the same.Conventionally known as an image-fixing belt is a belt consisting of a polyimide resin as the inner layer and a fluoroplastic as the outer layer. However, this fixing belt has problems that clear images cannot be obtained because the thickness of each layer is uneven, and that unglossed, so-called matt images cannot be obtained because the belt surface is smooth. This invention provides a composite tubular article comprising a tubular inner layer made of a polyimide resin and a tubular outer layer made of a fluoroplastic, the outer circumferential surface of the fluoroplastic tubular outer layer having a surface roughness of 1 to 10 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5370292
Abstract: A tape driving mechanism for a magnetic recording apparatus has a capstan rotated to advance a magnetic tape by pinching the magnetic tape between the capstan and a pinch roller. The pinch roller is pressed onto the magnetic tape against the capstan. The capstan surface is coated with a diamond-like carbon film which is smooth and highly wear-resistant. The difference between the tangential speed of the capstan and the tape transfer speed is almost zero. Thus, the state of contact is static. A static frictional coefficient between the diamond-like carbon film of the capstan and the magnetic tape is almost equal to twice the static frictional coefficient between the metal surface of the capstan and the magnetic tape in the conventional tape driving mechanism. The tape driving force thus remains sufficient even if the pressure exerted by the pinch roller is reduced to half the value employed in the conventional tape driving mechanism. The diamond-like carbon film may be coated on a rough surface of the capstan.

  • Patent number: 5364697
Abstract: A silicone composition is formed as a system including: a silicone compound, reactive group-containing modified silicic acid powder of which surface has been modified with an alkylsilane, a hexamethyldisilazane, a dimethylsilicone oil, or a mixture thereof, and an unsaturated group-containing silane compound; and inorganic fine powder carrying a surfactant. The silicone compound is preferably an addition reaction-type silicone rubber prepared from a dimethyl polysiloxane having a vinyl group, a methylhydrogenpolysiloxane and a platinum-based catalyst. The silicone composition is heat-cured to provide an elastic revolution body which is suitably used to constitute one or both of a fixing roller and a mating pressure roller in a roller fixing device for electrophotography.

  • Patent number: 5229813
Abstract: A backup roller assembly having a plurality of rollers for applying pressure to an inside surface of a photoreceptor web, and a process for making such backup rollers is disclosed wherein a thin walled tube is extruded from a metallic or polymeric material. After extrusion, the tubing is cut to a desired length and filled with a filler, preferably a urethane foam for providing support for the thin-walled tubing, for the adhesion of journals at each end of the tube and for grounding the photoreceptor web. After the journals are attached at each end of the tubing by the adhesion of the foam, the backup roller can be ground to a precise outer diameter. In a final step, the journals are machined to the proper specifications.
