  • Patent number: 7410454
Abstract: This invention forms a loose fill packing material comprising clean, elongated strips of paper formed from corrugated cardboard having internal fluting formatted to expand in height, improving the ability of the strips to lattice. A vertical slitter divides cardboard into blanks of a predetermined width generally with the grain of corrugation. The blanks are fed into a shredding device that cuts the blanks with a scissor motion across the width of the blank. The strips pass onto a cleated perforated conveyor and into an enclosed suction housing. Inside the suction housing is a vortex box enhancing air flow for cleaning the strips. Strips are centered on the conveyor. The strips move from the conveyor to an angled, vibrating sifter plate into a collector. Strips are sprayed with a liquid material having microbicidal, sanitizing, insect repellant, disinfectant and/or deodorizing properties.

  • Patent number: 7387148
Abstract: A method for positioning side panels during manufacture of a pant includes positioning the side panels on side panel transfer devices. The side panels move perpendicular to a pant transport plane as the pant is transported in the machine direction and the side panels reside on the side panel transfer devices. The side panels can include refastenable fastening components. The method and apparatus can move the fastening components closer together in the cross-machine direction or maintain the fastening components at a constant cross-machine position while the side panels reside on the side panel transfer devices.

  • Patent number: 6588739
Abstract: A device for feeding a web of material utilizes a pair of low angle bar superstructures situated adjacent to each other. Two cross or transverse folding devices are situated on the same or on different planes after, in the direction of web travel, the superstructures. Wide webs of material can be processed and if one of the transverse folders fails, production can be shifted to the other folder.

  • Patent number: 6024684
Abstract: Folded products are produced in a web-fed press by directing the printed web to longitudinal formers and then to multi-width transverse folders. The longitudinal formers are supported so that at least selected ones of them can be shifted vertically with respect to the transverse folders. A parallelogram-like linkage is used to shift the longitudinal formers vertically. Vertical shifting of the formers accomplishes transverse shifting of the location of the delivery of formed products from the formers to the multi-width transverse folders.

  • Patent number: 5891007
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are for forming open-edge V-shaped notches (32) in a binding margin (42) of large-format sheets (11) such as shop drawings or construction plans for example, so that after the sheets have been folded the notches (32) are aligned in registration with binding holes (46) also provided in the binding margin. A cutting and crosswise folding table (20) is provided at the top of a folding machine, and stamping tools (22) are provided at an edge of the table. The large-format sheets are continuously, sequentially output from a device such as a plotter, and fed to the folding machine, where the sheets are folded lengthwise and transported onto the table (20). There, the notches are cut in the binding margin by the stamping tools. The binding holes may be simultaneously formed. Thereafter, a crosswise folding beam (65) folds the sheet in a crosswise direction.

  • Patent number: 5162036
Abstract: A continuous web of paper is subdivided into a series of discrete webs of finite length, and successive discrete webs of the series are provided with looped sections in zig-zag formation. Successive discrete webs of the series are moved forwardly and away from the next-following webs of the series while advancing toward a stacking station to thus establish between successive discrete webs gaps of predetermined width. The making of gaps involves advancing the discrete webs with the upper reaches of three parallel foraminous endless belt conveyors which attract the webs and move them toward the stacking station. The median belt conveyor is accelerated when it is approached by the trailing end of a discrete web and then advances the trailing end at a speed exceeding the speed of the other conveyors and of the leader of the next-following discrete web.

  • Patent number: 4702135
Abstract: An apparatus for converting a continuous paper web with transversely extending weakened zones into successive stacks of overlapping panels in zig-zag formation has two endless foraminous belt conveyors with divergent active reaches which attract alternate panels of the running web and advance alternate weakened zones into the range of the flights of two spiral conveyors. The spiral conveyors terminate the change of orientation of oncoming panels and deposit the panels on a vertically movable support whereon the panels accumulate into a stack. When the number of panels in a stack reaches a predetermined value, a nozzle admits compressed air between the topmost panel of the stack and the next-following panel so as to open the zig-zag formation and permit insertion of a table having a slot for a reciprocable knife which severs the web along the fold line between the topmost panel of the stack and the next-following panel.
