  • Patent number: 8882648
Abstract: Aspects of the methods herein relate to the fabrication of diaper pants wherein side panels connected with the first waist region of a discrete chassis are conveyed in a first direction until a second waist region advances past a nip. The crotch region of the chassis is then redirected into the nip, folding the chassis to position the second waist region into a facing relationship with the first waist region. The folded chassis is then conveyed in a second direction with the side panels positioned on panel conveyors extending laterally outward from the first waist region. As the folded chassis travels in the second direction, the panel conveyors twist to position end regions of the side panels to connect with the second waist region of the folded chassis. The side panels and the waist regions of the folded chassis may also be compressed between the panel conveyors and a roller.

Abstract: A method of making reinforced paperboard cartons comprises the steps of advancing a web of paperboard along a path and progressively laminating at least one ribbon of reinforcing material to the advancing web of paperboard. The ribbon of reinforcing material, which also may be paperboard, has a width less than the width of the web of paperboard and is applied with adhesive at a selected location across the width of the web. The web and its laminated ribbon are cut into sheets of a predetermined size and the sheets are die-cut and scored with fold lines to form carton blanks. The fold lines may transition from non-reinforced to reinforced portions of the blank and a special transition zone is contemplated to accommodate the transition. In the passage from a delivery assembly to a treatment station functioning cyclically, the web material is subjected to extension. In order to ensure proper alignment of the individual articles with patterns or decorations provided thereon, the web must be fed to the treatment station in phase with the position reached by the treatment station within its operating cycle. The adhesive layer is constructed of a thin panel of compatibly heat-sealable plastic material, one surface of which carries a pressure sensitive adhesive over which an adhesive release strip is disposed. The adhesive layer is disposed between the outer holder panels so that the adhesive release strip insulates against fusion to its adjacent panel, as the opposing non-adhesive surface of the adhesive layer is heat-sealed to its adjacent holder panel. The process results in a data disk holder having a substantially uniform thickness throughout which is particularly beneficial when used in a bindery process.

  • Patent number: 4443287
Abstract: With the aid of a traction element at which there are temporarily fixed or attached the printed products, such as newspapers, periodicals and the like, there is rendered possible maintaining a certain order of the printed products during their processing, while however affording the possibility of altering the product order or arrangement, and thereafter to again reestablish the same. The traction element possesses a latent adhesion or sticking capability which can be activated in order to fix the products at the traction element. It is conversely possible to annihilate the adhesion or sticking capability or property and thus to detach the traction element from the products without damage to the products or leaving any visible marks or traces thereat. It is preferred to use a traction element which is provided with a hot melt, and the fixation of the products at the traction element and the detachment of the traction element from the products is accomplished in the presence of heat.

  • Patent number: 4415253
Abstract: Individual, relatively small sheets of type elements bearing different characters are disposed in an indexed selector board and are removed from it and placed in a fixture proximate the adhesive surface of a type backing strip. A bridge across a strip guide way prevents the shingle style build-up of the type elements as type is set into a long continuous strip.

  • Patent number: 4237776
Abstract: A cushioning dunnage producing and handling mechanism which is of relatively compact nature utilizing a multiply roll of sheet-like stock material, such as paper. As the stock is pulled off the composite roll, the edges are rolled inwardly in a longitudinally convergent chute, into generally superimposed condition. Pusher means urges the sheet-like stock material laterally toward a confronting surface of the chute. Then the inwardly rolled stock is passed into a crumpler section where mechanism attach together the confronting portions of the rolled edges of the stock material generally centrally, in a direction lengthwise thereof, to retain the dunnage product in highly compressible, lightweight pad-like form. A transfer vehicle is adapted to coact with the dunnage producing mechanism for storing a preselected amount of the pad-like dunnage product on the vehicle, whereupon the vehicle can be moved to a location distant from the dunnage producing mechanism for use at the distant location.

  • Patent number: RE45256
Abstract: A method for positioning side panels during manufacture of a pant includes positioning the side panels on side panel transfer devices. The side panels move perpendicular to a pant transport plane as the pant is transported in the machine direction and the side panels reside on the side panel transfer devices. The side panels can include refastenable fastening components. The method and apparatus can move the fastening components closer together in the cross-machine direction or maintain the fastening components at a constant cross-machine position while the side panels reside on the side panel transfer devices.
