Patent number: 8882648Abstract: Aspects of the methods herein relate to the fabrication of diaper pants wherein side panels connected with the first waist region of a discrete chassis are conveyed in a first direction until a second waist region advances past a nip. The crotch region of the chassis is then redirected into the nip, folding the chassis to position the second waist region into a facing relationship with the first waist region. The folded chassis is then conveyed in a second direction with the side panels positioned on panel conveyors extending laterally outward from the first waist region. As the folded chassis travels in the second direction, the panel conveyors twist to position end regions of the side panels to connect with the second waist region of the folded chassis. The side panels and the waist regions of the folded chassis may also be compressed between the panel conveyors and a roller.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2011Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventor: Uwe Schneider

Patent number: 6021621Abstract: A zipper sealer machine for use with a form, fill and seal machines and the method for bonding strips of reclosable fastener material to the film of a form fill and seal machine. Strips of reclosable fastener material are cut and the cut ends fused together by cutter-fuser jaws. A sensor senses when the cutter-fuser jaws become fully closed and when they begin to open so that other steps in the operation can be based on when the jaws actually begin to open and when they are actually fully closed rather than when the signal is sent that causes them to open and close. Relief area that have been coated with an anti-stick substance have been provide in the engaging surfaces of the cutter-fuser jaws to avoid fusing of the flanges and to prevent sticking of the flanges to the cutter-fuser jaws. The cut strips of reclosable fastener material are held on an edge of the rotor that is remote from the film surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1998Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Triangle Package Machinery CompanyInventor: John M. Patent number: 6012264Abstract: A zipper sealer machine for use with form, fill and seal machines and the method for bonding strips of reclosable fastener material strip fastener material to the film of a form fill and seal machine. The zipper sealer machine is adapted to be mounted within in the form, fill and seal machine and coordinate with the components of the form, fill and seal machine such as its film control mechanism. The zipper sealer machine includes a substantially symmetrically formed rotor having a pair of outer edges. Reclosable fastener material strip fastener material is fed to an outer edge of the rotor and cut to length. The cutting process also fuses the cut ends of the reclosable fastener material strip fastener material . The rotor is rotated 180 degrees, which locates the strip of reclosable fastener material strip fastener material adjacent to the film course at which it is bonded to the film.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1998Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: Triangle Package Machinery CompanyInventor: John M. Patent number: 5870880Abstract: Filter bags containing a substance from which to prepare an infusion are fashioned from tubular blanks of filter paper having an elongated appearance, each one filled with measured and separate quantities of the substance distributed along its length, which are doubled up and made secure, then provided with a label attached by a length of thread. A machine for automating the manufacture of such bags includes a wheel carrying grippers with radial arms, around which the thread is drawn peripherally as the grippers are indexed in turn through a station where the blank is folded double initially, a forming station at which the two joined ends are folded together to effect a closure, a cutting station at which the thread is divided into single lengths, a feed station supplying the labels, and a fastening station at which the length of thread is knotted both to the label and to the closure.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1996Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: I.M.A. Industria Macchine Automatiche S.P.A.Inventor: Andrea Romagnoli

Patent number: 5300010Abstract: A mechanical apparatus and method for producing a folded paper rose from an elongated strip of paper. The apparatus is operated by feeding an elongated paper strip through a rotating shuttle assembly, and securing the end of the paper strip onto a slotted stem which is rotated simultaneously with the shuttle assembly. Rotating the shuttle assembly causes a pair of shuttles to cooperate with a paper folding member adjacent the ends of the shuttles to produce a series of sequential folds in the paper strip. Meanwhile, the stem is simultaneously rotating to assemble the folded paper around the stem. Once the paper is fully assembled around the stem the folded paper strip is compressed toward the top of the stem to form a compact flower assembly at the end of the stem.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1992Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Assignee: Hasbro, Inc.Inventor: Fred D. Patent number: 5147273Abstract: A method and an apparatus produce a stack of overlapping, U-folded- or zig-zag-folded individual material sheets, in particular of absorbent paper, that mesh with one another. The stack is formed by two roller systems or roller sets, one for each of two material webs. Each system includes a stacking roller (8, 9) in a stacking station. The two stacking rollers cooperate in the stack formation. Each set of rollers includes at least one cutting roller (11) with a cutting knife (12) for each material web, a transport roller (13), and a pulling and guide roller (14). All rollers are arranged and driven in a machine frame. Each stacking roller (8,9) has at least one crimping- and folding-edge (16,20,21) and at least one tiltable suction gripper flap. At least one suction element (23) is part of the suction gripper flap and at least one further suction element (24) is arranged behind the suction gripper flap or behind the crimping- and folding-edge as viewed in the sheet travel direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1990Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Winkler & Duennebier Maschinenfabrik KGInventors: Engelbert Rottmann, Gilbert Hauschild, Christian Riedel
