Abstract: A friction lock adaptable spacer configured to provide suitable separation between two or more objects. The spacer may be used during the storage, transport, display, and/or use of the objects to separate them and protect them from their surrounding environment. In some embodiments, the spacer is designed to maintain a suitable separation between two or more beverage containers. The spacer has a single piece construction, which reduces assembly and disassembly labor, and also reduces materials required for construction and disposal. The spacer may be constructed from a single piece of material, such as corrugated cardboard.

Systems can include a mandrel movably mounted on a path, a hopper providing the side support portion, a feeder providing the main portion, and a folding assembly configured to fold the side flaps over the support portion. The systems may further include a plurality of plows and compression plates for bending side panels of the main portion, the side support portion, and the bottom flaps over the mandrel. Methods can include moving a mandrel forward along a path inside a machine, engaging the side support portion on a first side of the mandrel, and engaging a bottom panel of the main portion on a front of the mandrel such that an edge of the support portion is aligned against said bottom panel. Side panels of the main portion may be bent over opposing sides of the mandrel which are generally perpendicular to the first side of the mandrel.

Abstract: A partition making apparatus includes a first card material supply module, a first card forming module including a slot former, a singulator and a card transporter. The first card forming module also includes a feeder for advancing a band of first card forming material at least partially through the first module. The first module may include a transporter which shifts singulated first cards from a first location to a card delivery location with a card transferor shifting sets of first cards to be included in an assembled partition from the first card forming module to an assembly station. The sets of first cards may be advanced along a conveyor included in the assembly station to a second card insertion location. The second card material supply module provides a band of second card forming material to a second card forming module.

Abstract: A multiple compartment package having a connecting bridge with a frangible internal barrier is made from two composite or thermoplastic sheets or webs welded together to form the front and back walls of the package, and the central bridge portion is defined by one or more partitions spanning the short distance between the webs. In the preferred embodiment, multiple partitions form a plurality of parallel compartment strips to create an obstruction to penetration of substances from one packet to the other. One process for making the invention uses a comb-shaped mask and a thermoplastic insert strip interwoven between the tines of the comb. The tines are extended down between the welding heads of the packaging machine, preventing welding from taking place between the thermoplastic sheets wherever the comb mash is, with the result that the welding occurs between the strip and an alternating one of the side webs creating a zig-zag pattern that forms the vacant barrier compartments.

Abstract: A partition lock for a reticular or grid cell assembly having a first and a second planar member. The partition lock comprises a first slot; a second slot; a tab portion; and a receiving aperture. The first slot is defined at a substantially vertical position in the first planar member. The second slot is defined at a substantially vertical position in the second planar member. Each slot has a first and a second side and a width sufficient to accept the member to be inserted in the slot. The second slot sufficiently cooperates with the first slot to allow the first and the second planar member to align within substantially the same plane when the two pieces are interjoined. The tab portion is positioned on the first member extending from the first side of the first slot to a first notch in the second side of the first slot such that the first tab portion is received in a notch formed in the slot.

Abstract: A laminated package insert is provided having increased compressive strength for a given weight of board stock, and being easier to erect, as compared to previously known inserts. The insert is made from two substantially identical blanks, with identical score patterns, placed face-to-face and adhered in selected areas, leaving other areas adhesive-free. The score lines are formed so that no score line has to be broken backwards during erection, thereby making erection easier, particularly for automatic insert erecting equipment. A method and apparatus for assembling the insert are also provided wherein two feeders alternately feed blanks into a hopper, each successive pair of blands being face-to-face, one blank having adhesive on selected areas of the face facing the other blank. The synchronization of the two feeders is carefully controlled, as is the settling of the blanks in the hopper, using air jets free of turbulence.

Abstract: This relates to a multicell carrier which is advantageously formed from two separate generally rectangular blanks as opposed to a single generally L-shaped blank. By forming the carrier from two separate blanks, each of which is generally rectangular, a maximum board usage may be obtained and at the same time board is available, without waste, for forming handle reinforcing flaps. In addition, by providing two separate blanks and effecting the simultaneous folding of the two blanks, although the two blanks must be joined in the forming of a carrier, greater glue and folding speed is obtainable as compared to the forming of a like carrier from a single L-shaped blank.

Abstract: A partition assembly has longitudinal and cross partition strips with interlocks for joining the longitudinal and cross strips. Each interlock has a first slot in a longitudinal strip and a second slot in a cross strip. One of the slots has a tab with the side surface of the tab adhered to a wall of the strip having the other slot. The tab is foldable generally along the line of intersection of the strips to accommodate unfolding of the partition assembly between collapsed and expanded configurations.
