  • Publication number: 20090025141
Abstract: A daybed is disclosed that is convertible between a sitting configuration suitable for use, for example, as a sofa, and a lying configuration suitable for use, for example, as a bed. The daybed generally comprises a bed platform, a back panel connected to the bed platform, a mattress positioned at least partly on the bed platform, and a support member movable relative to the bed platform and back panel for use in at least partly helping convert the daybed. For example, in example embodiments the support member includes a storage container that may be positioned at least partly under the bed platform when the daybed is in the sitting configuration. And the storage container may be moved forward of the bed platform when the daybed is converted to the lying configuration so that at least part of the mattress may be also positioned on the storage container.

  • Patent number: 5088135
Abstract: The present inventon is a convertible sofa, bed and dinette facility that is designed for use in various compact areas having limited space such as commonly found in mobile recreational vehicles, and the facility being defined by two furniture units that together are adapted to be selectively arranged for use as a sofa, a bed or a table assembly. Each furniture unit comprises a frame structure having a main frame section and a secondary extendible frame section. Each furniture unit is releasably secured to a wall structure for any one of the selective arragements. One furniture unit is adapted to be rotatably slidable from one wall position to an adjacent wall. The other furniture unit is adapted to be rotated from one wall to another in such a manner as to be correspondingly arranged to the oppositely disposed furniture unit so as to define a selective mode of use while located in a given compact space.

  • Patent number: 4970735
Abstract: The present seat has a fixed, lower, first frame and a pair of second frames on top on opposite sides of the centerline of the first frame and each angularly adjustable between a retracted (sofa) position and an extended (bed) position at a right angle to the retracted position. Each second frame has a downwardly-projecting lock member for releasable engagement with an outer rail of the first frame on that side of its centerline when the second frame is in its retracted position. Rings of rubber-like material are sandwiched vertically between each second frame and the first frame to enhance the locking action when a person sits on that side of the seating device. A pair of back rests are removably mounted in sockets on the back ends of the outer rails of the first frame. Each back rest has a pillow-supporting frame that is angularly adjustable against the back of a person leading against that back rest.

  • Patent number: 4672696
Abstract: A convertible sitting/reclining furniture article comprises a main frame and a seat element which is supported at a predetermined elevation above ground. A bed frame can be pulled out of and pushed into the main frame in a drawer-like manner and includes a front side, a rear side and two lateral sides. An extension element is mounted on the bed frame for displacement between a retracted position and an extended position in which the extension element is disposed at the predetermined elevation to form an extension of the seat element by a five-bar kinematic linkage at each of the lateral sides of the bed frame. Each of the kinematic linkages includes a steering lever pivotally mounted at a first region of the extension element and at a first portion of the bed frame, and two steering links more remote from the front side of the bed frame than the steering lever and adjacent to the steering lever.

  • Patent number: 4620335
Abstract: A bed structure for a vehicle is provided and includes a plurality of interconnected elongated cushions, each having a forward edge, a rearward edge, and opposite sides, and a track assembly connected to each side wall of the vehicle for supporting the cushions adjacent their opposite ends. The cushions are movable along the track assembly between a first position, wherein a couch having a seat portion and a back rest is formed by the cushions and a second position wherein a substantially flat bed surface is formed by the cushions. The bed surface is the approximate size of a queen size bed. Each cushion includes a rigid base and a resilient pad mounted thereon, and are interconnected to one another to prevent sliding of the cushions in either the first couch position or the second bed position. Storage area is provided in the vehicle behind the couch and beneath the couch or bed surface.
