Abstract: The invention provides a protective structure which can be used to protect a localized area within home or work place. The invention is especially usable as a protective structure for a sleeping area or for a work table area. The invention includes a rectangular frame, vertical support members and a canopy. The structure is ideally made entirely out of steel or like material. The vertical support members include at each corner, a pair of linear members, such as tubular steel members. Each pair of linear members is in abutment at their upper ends but are spaced apart by several inches at their lower ends. Also, each pair of vertical members is tilted inwardly towards the center of the rectangular frame by about 7 degrees. By these techniques, the support structure is extremely rigid and is extremely resistant to lateral moments.

Front deck sections (44a, 44b) comprising a front wall (36); and back deck sections (46a, 46b) comprising a back wall (38). Dissimilar joint means (D, E, F) join together the respective deck sections so that assembly may be had only in a prescribed and correct manner. A web (90) joins front and back sections (36, 38) together to cover a longitudinal joint (22) formed between dual mattresses (12, 14) in the case of a queen size or king size bed arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4970743
Abstract: A mattress and foundation bedding system having a knock-down capability for ease of assembly and disassembly, and for shipment and storage. The foundation has a core of honeycomb cells enclosed in an outer box and dressed with ticking material to resemble conventional bedding. The mattress has interlocking foam sidewal rails suitably reinforced to maintain its shape. The sidewall rails define a central cavity into which a sleep support system may be placed. The sleep support system may be fluid filled, or foam, or a conventional spring set, or other suitable supporting medium and is enclosed in a liner. The entire mattress is enclosed in a removable ticking enclosure.

  • Patent number: 4970737
Abstract: The adjustable hospital and nursing home bed, has a three-part support frame for mattresses, the head, middle and foot part of which are pivotably connected to one another via pivot shafts and are supported in a suspension frame of a bed frame such that they are pivotable in height directly by means of a force provider, preferably a gas spring and indirectly via a lever linkage. The suspension frame is embodied such that it is divided transversely to the longitudinal direction of the bed and such that it can be taken apart, and is retained removably on head- and footboards of the bed frame. The headboard and footboard are embodied such that they telescope within one another and are continuously adjustable in height along with the suspension frame and the support frame, by means of gas springs.

Abstract: An improved rest cot is provided which includes a plurality of elongate support members arranged to form a frame having a canvas or cloth panel secured thereto. The ends of the support members are attached to each other using specially designed corner pieces. Each corner piece includes a downwardly extending leg constructed of multiple tubular sections. The leg of one corner piece is designed to nest within the leg of another corner piece so that storage of the cots in a stacked configuration is facilitated. Each corner piece also includes two open attachment sections each designed to receive one support member. The attachment sections individually include multiple engagement members sized to receive a support member. Once a support member is received between the engagement members, they are urged together against the support member using a collar which is secured to the corner piece by a mechanical fastener.

Abstract: A frame is adapted to surround a liguid-filled sack and a rigid support. The sack is placed on the upper surface of the support so as to constitute the cushion-like upper portion of a water bed. The frame has four rails which are interconnected to form a rectangular shape. The frame includes at least two, preferably four, detachably interconnected sections. The rails may be made of ethyl vinyl acetate. Alternatively, each of the rails has a tubular foam body and a rigid central rod fitted within the tubular foam body. In one embodiment, the frame includes four rails, four corner elements and four coupling units interconnecting the rails and the corner elements.

  • Patent number: 4870711
Abstract: A metal foundation for a bed comprises a modular system of components easily assembled without conventional fasteners. The assembly includes parallel tubular side frame members of rectangular cross-section, each having two L-shaped pieces interlocked lengthwise in a sliding fit. Vertical stiffening ribs spaced apart along the inside and outside faces of the rectangular side members add rigidity. A pair of parallel tubular rectangular end frame members similar to the side members are at opposite ends of the foundation. Four L-shaped and tubular corner connectors of rectangular cross-section provide sockets to slidably receive the ends of the side and end frame members at the corners of the foundation. Longitudinal and lateral inverted U-shaped cross-slats slidably fit into corresponding slots in the inside faces of the side and end frame members.

  • Patent number: 4841586
Abstract: A new system of waterbed frame and component construction which enables pedestals, frames and padded caps to be put together to form any size waterbed. A pedestal is provided which is extendable by means of inserting extension pieces using special connecting joints in the front and back boards. The insertion of such extension pieces in the front and back boards converts a super single size waterbed pedestal to a Queen or King size bed. Similarly, specially designed padded caps and extension pieces makes the end rail padded cap adjustable to fit any size of waterbed. Furthermore, the same concept of extension pieces is used to form the frame as well. Thus, this new system of waterbed component construction reduces the cost and problems of shipping and inventory involved with prior waterbed frame construction.
