Abstract: This invention relates to a youth bed construction. More particularly, this invention utilizes the springs and mattresses from a conventional baby crib together with a baby crib conversion kit to build a youth toddler bed.

Abstract: A side guard for a hospital bed moves between elevated and depressed positions on parallel swing arms that are quite short and extend from a base mounted on the back section of the bed. It further has an upper section which pivots outwardly and downwardly to a retracted position to substantially reduce the height of the side guard. When the side guard is in its depressed position with its upper section folded to the retracted position, the side guard lies entirely below the mattress supporting surface of the bed back section and therefore does not interfere with bed making. Also the upper section may carry a bed control unit, or a telephone, or controls for other electrically operated devices, and when in its extended position, these devices are presented inwardly toward the occupant of the bed, but when the upper section is in its retracted position, they are presented outwardly where they are conveniently accessible to one sitting or standing beside the bed.

Abstract: A retainer sheet includes an array of pockets in which cylindrically shaped foam members are removably inserted to define a retainer structure enclosing a sleeping area. The foam units an be removed for laundering and can be positioned in abutting relationship to form a self-locking configuration.

Abstract: A wheeled hospital bed is removably connectible to a drive unit. The bed comprises a plurality of articulated frame sections, a plurality of driven shafts, a linkage interconnecting the driven shafts and the frame sections for articulating the latter in response to rotation of the driven shafts, and a first guide structure. The drive unit includes a plurality of motors and drive shafts, and a second guide structure arranged to interact with the first guide structure of the bed when the bed is merged with the drive unit in order to orient the bed and drive units such that the drive and driven shafts are mutually aligned. The drive and driven shafts include a self-coupling mechanism for establishing a drive connection therebetween when in a merged condition. The drive unit may be anchored to the floor, or may be supported solely by the bed. In the former case, the bed can be rotatable about a vertical axis relative to the drive unit while maintaining connection therewith.

Abstract: A full size bed is provided convertible to a crib to allow the child full range of movement including a frame with vertical cavities in each member of the frame into which vertical bars are inserted to fix guard rails around the periphery of the bed with a section of the guard rail a separable gate which connects using extensions of vertical bars to the adjacent edges of the guard rail.

Abstract: A device for carrying sick persons comprises a frame formed as a longeron and covered with a pad, and a safety belt system connected to the frame. The belt system includes a V-shaped portion which is to be extended over the shoulders of a patient and a belt loop to be extended over the legs of the patient. The two portions of the belt system may be connected to each other by a snap closure. The device is further provided with an unrolling arrangement for adjusting the length of the belt loop.

Abstract: A nurse call apparatus includes a nurse call device, a bed having a side railing and a flexible sheet and a pocket, formed on one side of the flexible sheet for receiving the call device. The holder can be wrapped about the horizontal bars of the bed railing so that the pocket faces the bed proper. In one embodiment of the invention, a D-ring and self-adhering adhesive are respectively provided at opposite ends of the sheet for use in maintaining the holder wrapped about the bed railing. In an alternative embodiment, textile fastening strips, are provided at opposite ends of the sheet to keep the holder wrapped around the bed railing.

Abstract: A bed assembly is provided particularly for geriatric use. The bed includes a mattress supported by a frame having a plurality of supporting legs, and bolsters are provided on either side of the mattress, mounted so that a top surface of each is substantially even with the top of the mattress. An undercarriage support structure including a pair of horizontal channel members are provided for receiving the legs of the mattress supporting frame and preventing substantial movement thereof with respect to the bolsters. The horizontal channel members include a pair of end portions which are received by passageways associated with the bolsters and allow the bolsters to be slid up and down off of and onto the undercarriage. A rail is mounted on each bolster for movement from a position below the top of the mattress to a position above the top of the mattress wherein it performs a roll-off preventing function.

Abstract: A roll extends around the upper end and along each side of an infant's back. The panel continues beyond the roll as a flap on which the infant sits. The roll is formed by an outer layer enclosing a resilient but compressible material and preferably has a larger diameter from the top of the panel, which may have a curved, convex contour followed by the roll, along each side of the panel to a position corresponding to the shoulders of the infant, and then decreases or tapers to the end of each side of the roll. Both the outer layer of the roll and a front layer of the panel may be quilted fabric layers with a rear layer of the panel being fabric.

Abstract: A safety latch for a crib drop side and a notched drop rod including a clip on the top rail of the drop side, the clip having a part lodged in the notch when latched, the clip having a motion to unlatch the same only upon a relative motion of the rail with respect to the clip.

Abstract: A body supporting assembly composed of pivotally connected supports provided with locking devices which change the functions of the supports and their adjusting means to provide a plurality of positions as may be desired by the occupant for comfort or may be required for various treatments or health reasons. The body supporting assembly is mounted on base members resting on the floor which can be adjusted in relation to the body supporting assembly to facilitate various positioning requirements.

Abstract: A hospital stretcher, including a chassis frame mounted on wheels, and a stretcher frame carried upon the wheeled chassis frame, transverse extending rails across a top of the chassis frames so that a ball bearing suspension mounted on an underside of the stretcher frame, allows the stretcher frame to be sidewardly moved a part way upon a bed so as to more easily permit transfer of a patient therebetween.

Abstract: A guard rail attachment is provided which enables the guard rail for a bed to be moved from an upright position to a lower clearance position to provide access to the mattress. The guard rail attachment includes a plate which is secured to the guard rail. A lower hinge is associated with the plate and includes one element which is secured to the plate and another element which is secured to one of the side rails of the bed. An upper hinge is associated with the plate and includes a locking element which releasably locks the guard rail attachment to the bed frame structure.

Abstract: A guard rail assembly adapted to be attached to a bed, table or other element and to be adjusted in simple manner, when so attached, between upright and locked position in which it provides a vertical barrier or support extending above the horizontal surface or plane of the bed, table or other element, and folded position in which it is pivoted to or below the horizontal surface plane of said element to occupy a minimum of space and present no horizontal obstruction to said surface. The present invention is characterized by a guard rail assembly which is sturdy, which contains a minimum number of moving parts and which is adjustable between upright, locked position and folded position with a minimum amount of effort which may be exerted by means of one hand in a single continuous motion.

Abstract: A padded cover for a hospital bed siderail. Two panels of padded material of a shape similar to the appropriate bed rail and of a size sufficient to completely cover and enclose the bed rail are hinged together for movement between an open, spaced apart relationship and a closed, coplanar relationship enclosing the bed rail. Detachable fastening means are located along the lower edge of the panels for detachably fastening the two panels on the bed rail.
