With Sideguard Patents (Class 5/732)
  • Patent number: 6223370
Abstract: A mattress having an anti-roll off feature is disclosed. The mattress has an innerspring unit having an array of coiled compression springs separating opposed parallel surfaces, wherein the surfaces are covered by a webbing made of a nonwoven polypropylene, and wherein the outer periphery of the webbing has horizontally disposed rigid foam planks wrapped and held in place by the webbing. The foam planks are formed from polyethylene foam. Additionally, vertically disposed rigid polyethylene foam planks with cross members are situated within the innerspring unit between the compressions springs at the periphery of the innerspring unit. The foam planks with cross members provide the support needed to achieve the anti-roll off feature. In an alternative embodiment, rigid polyethylene foam cylinders are placed within the rows of compression springs at the periphery of the innerspring unit to provide support at those locations.

  • Patent number: 6199230
Abstract: The Infant/toddler indoor—outdoor play/mat corral with locking handle 16 and clasp mechanism 18 has a top quilt base 10 and foam block walls 40 which follow the perimeter of the base. Fabric 14 is sewn together creating two “U” shape receiving channels which overlay foam block walls 40 and are sewn to top quilt base 10 and bottom water resistant base 28 from interior to exterior. A locking handle 16 and clasp mechanism 18 including a handle piece sewn into one exterior wall that is fitted into a clasp sewn into the opposite exterior wall forming a handle for securing and carrying purposes. When the corral is folded along its diameter 30 creating a single “U” shape, the foam block walls 40 collapse and meet by connecting VELCRO strips 32 sewn along the bottom water resistant base 28 thus keeping the wall portions secure with the locking handle 16 and clasp mechanism 18. A pocket 22 is sewn to exterior wall portion to store items when folded and unfolded.

  • Patent number: 6108844
Abstract: A sleeper sofa incorporating an air mattress including a telescoping mattress frame for supporting a mattress support subassembly consisting of hinge panels. The hinges used to connect the panels limit the angular range of motion of adjacent panels to plus or minus 90.degree. from a coplanar arrangement. The "panel" that defines the seating surface on which seat cushions rest when the sofa is in the seating position may be supported in the seating position by a pair of side rails that lack significant structure in the seating plane. This "panel" may also include a set of sinuous springs clad in padding similar to the seat-cushion support surface of a conventional non-sleeper sofa. The air mattress used in the sleeper sofa can be a multi-chamber design in which the outer edges of the mattress are inflated to a higher pressure to prevent the user from rolling off the edge of the mattress.

  • Patent number: 6085372
Abstract: The mattress includes a main assembly, a pair of bolsters, and a bottom assembly. The main assembly is adapted to overlay the conventional mattress of the bed, and has opposing longitudinal sides, and comprises a plurality of cells that are selectively inflatable for moving the patient in the preselected ways so as to prevent the patient from having the skin breakdowns. The pair of bolsters are replaceably attached to, and extend along, the opposing longitudinal sides of the main assembly, and are inflatable, and when inflated, form barriers that prevent the patient from falling off the bed when the patient is turning. The bottom assembly is adapted to overlay the conventional mattress of the bed and underlie the main assembly, and when inflated, forms a static air space between the main assembly and the conventional mattress of the bed that prevents the patient from bottoming out on the low side of the turning, while suspending the patient in the cushion of static air if the power to the main assembly fails.

  • Patent number: 6052853
Abstract: A mattress assembly, comprising: substantially nonporous bottom and side walls forming a mattress foundation; a mattress inner core disposed in the mattress foundation being permeable to air; nonporous top cover covering the mattress inner core, the nonporous top cover having apertures at predetermined locations to allow the flow of air therethrough; and a fan disposed with the mattress assembly for forcing air into the mattress inner core whereby the air is forced out the top cover so as to reduce the accumulation of carbon dioxide in bedding on the top cover of the mattress.

  • Patent number: 6026525
Abstract: A foldable infant mattress system with a sleeping recess. A head mattress section is hingedly connected to a foot mattress section. Each mattress sections include an end wall and two laterally spaced apart sidewalls traversed to the end wall. The foldable infant mattress system is deployed in a flat position for sleeping and foldable into a closed position for carrying. In the flat position, the end wall and sidewalls of each mattress section together form the recess which contains an infant to a sleeping area. The walls are of sufficient thickness to allow for sound structural support and effective restraint of the infant. In the closed position, the mattress sections form a compact, easily carried assembly. A closing device such as a combination of straps and a snap is used which also forms a handle for carrying the mattress system. The mattress system is constructed of a foam material which is air permeable.

  • Patent number: 6023802
Abstract: An infant sleeper is provided that has raised wall portions positioned to approximately correspond to the center of mass of the infant so as to provide maximum retention support and security to the infant. The raised wall portions, in combination with a horizontal surface on which the infant rests, secures the infant to the bed. The head can be inclined at an angle so that the head of the infant can be kept slightly above its foot. The portion of the bed that lacks the raised wall portion provides as little obstruction as possible to the head of the infant so as to reduce potential feelings of claustrophobia as well as possible obstructions to breathing such as from blankets. Hence, the present invention combines a secure place for an infant to sleep with a sense of openness and freedom. It is believed that this position allows the infant to rest in a more correct anatomical position so as to ameliorate potential respiratory conditions and especially sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
