Rotatable Platform Type Patents (Class 5/81.1RP)
  • Patent number: 8990975
Abstract: A user assistance apparatus and system is disclosed. The apparatus and system may include a base and a platform rotatably positionable about the base. A lift assist chair may be disposed upon the platform, and handrails may be attached to the platform such that the handrails rotate with the platform. The handrails extend from the platform to define an entry, and the handrails are configured to assist a user as the user passes between the entry and the lift assist chair. Fixtures may be disposed in a generally curved arrangement to cooperate with the entry as the platform is rotatably positioned about the base. Related methods of use are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system is disclosed for facilitating rotation of a mattress. Covers with slick surfaces are selectively placed in engagement with each other between the mattress and the box spring or platform . One cover is provided with a slick and non-slick surface. The other cover may be the same as the first cover or may have slick surfaces on two sides. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, one cover may is a protective cover that encapsulates the entire mattress. In another alternate embodiment, one cover cooperates with a slick surface that is integrally provided on one or the other of the mattress or box spring or platform. In yet another alternate embodiment of the invention, slick surfaces are provided on both the mattress and the box spring or platform. The mattress is secured relative to the box spring or platform by removable fasteners in a normal mode of operation.

  • Publication number: 20130269102
Abstract: An improvement to devices known as “patient turners”, provides for a hand controlled brake and locking mechanism that positively locks the rotatable platform of these devices to their stationary base. The activation or deactivation of the mechanism is done by hand at a grab handle of the device instead of by foot at the base of the device. This allows the assistant using the device to rotate a patient standing on the platform to always keep two hands on the device and both feet on the floor during the whole rotation process. This process includes the activation of the braking and locking mechanism to prevent accidental and unplanned rotation of the platform, the patient getting onto the platform, the deactivation of the mechanism, the rotation of the patient on the platform by the assistant, the activation of the mechanism, and the patient getting off the platform.

  • Publication number: 20100319121
Abstract: A patient transfer device has an annular swivel ring rotatably mounted at one end of a base and located above a non-slip surface of that base, while the base rests on a support surface by means of a second non-slip surface. A hand-hold is located closely adjacent another end of the base so the overall device is stable and has a large non-slip surface presented both toward the user and toward the support surface; however, the device is not so large as to be cumbersome to maneuver. Thus, a balance has been made between stability and maneuverability and the locations of the hand-hold and the swivel are chosen to achieve this result. The covering of both the top and bottom surfaces of the base with non-slip material also permit the device to stably support a user while remaining as small and maneuverable as possible.

Abstract: An apparatus in an example comprises a seat, a torso support, and a connector. The seat comprises a rigid core. The torso support is coupled with the seat. The connector is coupled with the seat and/or the torso support. The connector is removably connectable with an accessory that serves to at least in part support a weight of a patient relative to a load-bearing surface. A location of the patient on the seat with a front of the patient faced toward the torso support and the connector coupled with the accessory allows control by a caregiver of an upper body of the patient for and during transfer of the patient by the caregiver from a start location to a target location.

  • Publication number: 20090106893
Abstract: The inflatable air mattress is placed on top of a conventional mattress, and is retained in place by straps that are secured to the bed frame. In the preferred embodiment, the inflatable air mattress includes a pair of identical chambers, the chambers being of rectangular shape and separated by a hinge line. Each chamber is divided into several, parallel cells, and a separate air pump is connected to each chamber. When energized, the pump forces pressurized air into the chamber and rapidly fills same. As the chamber is filled, it expands and is capable of rotating a patient positioned thereon, through a 90° arc of motion. With the intervention of a health care worker, or a nurse, the patient may then be rolled over from his front to his back, or vice versa.

Abstract: A medical assist device relocates patients from a first support such as a bed to a second support such as a chair or wheelchair. Upon location of the assist device to a position adjacent such first support, the patient may stand on a rotatable platform of the assist device. Upon actuation of the motor, preferably by a remote controller, the platform is caused to slowly rotate through a desired angular path to position the patient adjacent the second support. A steadying structure is provided for gripping by the patient. Under one embodiment, the steadying structure is designed to be collapsible. Mounted on a frame with the rotatable platform is a seat and wheels for moving a patient across a room or from room to room.
