The preferred additives are selected from the group of alkyl organic phosphate esters, a mixed titanium ortho ester complexes, and substituted sorbitols in the polyol acetal family.

The composition, which may also include between 0 and about 5 mole percent Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 and between 0 and about 10 mole percent B.sub.2 O.sub.3, has a thermal expansion coefficient in a range of between about 160 and 210.times.10-7/.degree.C. and a dissolution rate in a range of between about 2.times.10.sup.- 7 and 2.times.10.sup.-9 g/cm.sup.2 -min. This composition is suitable to hermetically seal to metallic electrical components which will be subjected to humid environments over an extended period of time.

    Abstract: Lead-iron phosphate glasses containing a high level of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 for use as a storage medium for high-level radioactive nuclear waste. By combining lead-iron phosphate glass with various types of simulated high-level nuclear waste, a highly corrosion resistant, homogeneous, easily processed glass can be formed. For corroding solutions at 90.degree. C., with solution pH values in the range between 5 and 9, the corrosion rate of the lead-iron phosphate nuclear waste glass is at least 10.sup.2 to 10.sup.3 times lower than the corrosion rate of a comparable borosilicate nuclear waste glass. The presence of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 in forming the lead-iron phosphate glass is critical. Lead-iron phosphate nuclear waste glass can be prepared at temperatures as low as 800.degree. C., since they exhibit very low melt viscosities in the 800.degree. to 1050.degree. C. temperature range. These waste-loaded glasses do not readily devitrify at temperatures as high as 550.degree. C.

In addition, the Na.sub.2 O/K.sub.2 O ratio is in the range of 0.6 to 1.0:1 and the (Na.sub.2 O+K.sub.2 O)/(TiO.sub.2 +ZrO.sub.2) is in the range of 0.7 to 1.2:1.

    Abstract: A process for producing feldspathic sanitary ware and the end product are disclosed in which a fluxing amount of a glass frit is used in the ceramic slip used to cast the sanitary ware. The frit contains both deflocculent oxides and flocculent alkaline earths which are leachable from the frit when it is placed in the ceramic slip. The deflocculent oxides counterbalance the effect of the flocculent alkaline earths to the extent they are respectively leached from the frit upon dispersal in a ceramic slip and maintain the slip at a workable viscosity. Upon casting and firing the slip, the present frit precipitates fine crystals of diopside having an average particle size of less than one micron which are particularly useful in lowering the firing temperature of feldspathic bodies by promoting the required degree of vitrification at lower temperatures than heretofore possible.

C. and a coefficient of thermal expansion less than 10.times.10.sup.-6 cm/cm/.degree.C. The frits of the present invention are particularly useful as components in vitrifiable glass decorating colors.

    Abstract: An aqueous magnesia slurry for forming an insulative glass coating on silicon steel, wherein a substantial portion of the magnesia is inactive (a citric acid activity greater than 200 seconds), a decomposable phosphate compound is present within the range of 2% to 25% by weight calculated as P.sub.2 O.sub.5, based on the dry weight of magnesia, and the magnesia concentration is at least 0.24 grams per cubic centimeter of slurry. The slurry is stable against settling for up to 10 hours and has a desirable viscosity for coating application by conventional means. From 10% to 100% inactive magnesia may be used with the remainder an active magnesia (citric acid activity of 20 to 40 seconds). Preferred phosphate compounds include monocalcium phosphate monohydrate, water soluble ammonium polyphosphate and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate.

    Abstract: A glass composition is disclosed that is useful as a solder glass for sealing components together. However, the glass is also especially adapted for use as an electric resistance film for coating the inner neck or funnel portions of a cathode ray tube to reduce arcing. The glass composition includes primarily the oxides of vanadium and phosphorous with the preferred addition of either zinc oxide or lead oxide. Still other metal oxides may be optionally included such as oxides of barium, antimony, lithium, manganese, silicon, boron, molybdenum and mixtures thereof.

    Abstract: A process for producing feldspathic sanitary ware and the end product are disclosed in which a fluxing amount of a glass frit is used in the ceramic slip used to cast the sanitary ware. The frit contains both deflocculent oxides and flocculent alkaline earths which are leachable from the frit when it is placed in the ceramic slip. The deflocculent oxides counterbalance the effect of the flocculent alkaline earths to the extent they are respectively leached from the frit upon dispersal in a ceramic slip and maintain the slip at a workable viscosity. Upon casting and firing the slip, the present frit precipitates fine crystals of diopside having an average particle size of less than one micron which are particularly useful in lowering the firing temperature of feldspathic bodies by promoting the required degree of vitrification at lower temperatures than heretofore possible.
