Abstract: Provided herein is a novel silica-supported nickel nanocomposite and a novel one-pot solution combustion synthesis of that nanocomposite. The method allows the synthesis of small size nickel nanoparticles (e.g., 3 nm to 40 nm) for which a considerable percentage of nickel is inserted into silica, experiencing strong metal-support interaction. These exceptional physicochemical properties make them desirable for various industrial applications, such as electronic, heterogeneous catalysis as well as conversion and storage of energy.

Abstract: A method for making an inorganic oxide supported catalyst involves impregnating an inorganic oxide component with a catalytic metal using an aqueous, acid bath. More specifically, the method involves forming and washing an inorganic oxide component, such as a silica gel or a silica co-gel, for example a silica-zirconia co-gel. The washed inorganic oxide component is then contacted with the acidic bath to effect the impregnation with the catalytic metal, such as cesium, to form an activated inorganic oxide component. Subsequently, the activated component is dried to form the catalyst. The resulting catalysts possess increased surface area, which is beneficial with respect to accessibility and amount of catalytically active sites.

Abstract: The invention relates to Group 1 metal/silica gel compositions comprising silica gel and an alkali metal or an alkali metal alloy. The compositions of the inventions are described as Stage 0, I, II, and III materials. These materials differ in their preparation and chemical reactivity. Each successive stage may be prepared directly using the methods described below or from an earlier stage material. Stage 0 materials may, for example, be prepared using liquid alloys of Na and K which are rapidly absorbed by silica gel (porous SiO2) under isothermal conditions, preferably at or just above room temperature, to form loose black powders that retain much of the reducing ability of the parent metals. When the low melting Group 1 metals are absorbed into the silica gel, a mild exothermic reaction produces Stage I material, loose black powders that are indefinitely stable in dry air. Subsequent heating to 400° C. produces Stage II materials, which are also loose black powders. Further heating above 400° C.

Abstract: A method for making a silica supported catalyst involves impregnating a silica component with a catalytic metal using an aqueous, alkaline bath before drying. More specifically, the method involves forming and washing a silica component, such as a silica gel or a co-gel, for example a silica-zirconia co-gel. Then, the washed silica component is contacted with the alkaline bath to effect the impregnation with the catalytic metal, such as cesium, to form an activated silica component. Subsequently, the activated silica component is dried to form the catalyst. The resulting catalysts demonstrate good mechanical strength.

Abstract: The present invention provides a metallocene catalyst supported on a molecular seive having “tubules-within-a-tubule” morphology. When the metallocene catalyst is used for preparing polyolefin, the MAO amount can be decreased to an amount such that the molar ratio of Al/Zr is below 200. Thus, production costs are greatly reduced.
