With Organic Nitrogen Or Halogen Compound Patents (Class 508/168)
  • Patent number: 5607906
Abstract: A grease composition for constant velocity joints which consists essentially of: (a) a base oil; (b) an urea thickener; (c) molybdenum disulfide; and (d) a metal salt or an overbasic metal salt selected from the group consisting of metal salts or overbasic metal salts of oxidized waxes, petroleum sulfonates, alkyl aryl sulfonates, salicylate, and phenates. In addition to (a) to (d), it may further contain, (e) an extreme pressure agent selected from the group consisting of a metal-free sulfur-phosphorus extreme pressure agent and molybdenum dithiophosphate, or (f) molybdenum dithiocarbamate. The grease composition exhibits excellent wear-resistance and pitting-inhibitory effect.

  • Patent number: 5589095
Abstract: A non-toxic coolant/lubricant is provided which is specifically designed for use in extremely high-load, high-stress machine operations, such as broaching. The composition of this coolant/lubricant includes about 8 to 15 wt % of molybdenum disulfide (MoS.sub.2) powder; about 2 to 6.6 wt % of soap flakes; about 6 to 12 wt % of a liquid polytetrafluoroethylene suspension; and about 66.4 to 84 wt % water. The liquid polytetrafluoroethylene component, which is a water-based suspension of polytetrafluoroethylene, serves as a replacement for toxic CCl.sub.4, which has been used to increase lubricity in coolant/lubricants comprising molybdenum disulfide. The replacement of CCl.sub.4 with liquid polytetrafluoroethylene in the present composition results in a non-toxic but still highly effective coolant/lubricant.

  • Patent number: 5565417
Abstract: The present invention provides a specific hybrid series of transition metal polymer matrix composite sets which create durable friction reducing, wear, and corrosion resistance characteristics which can be used in a powder or liquid form, or, which can be bonded to a desired surface at ambient temperature. The specific components are combinations of polytetrafluoroethylene and molybdenum disulfide, polytetrafluoroethylene and tungsten disulfide, or tungsten disulfide and molybdenum disulfide. This invention brings together the unique properties of organic chemistry (polytetrafluoroethylene) and inorganic chemistry (tungsten disulfide, or molybdenum disulfide). This invention creates a synergistic interaction which enhances the wear resistance properties of polytetrafluoroethylene while simultaneously improving the friction reducing properties of molybdenum disulfide, or tungsten disulfide.
