An Additional Reactant Contains Phosphorus Patents (Class 508/227)
  • Patent number: 8598099
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing a corrosion inhibitor compound and a mixture of two or more dispersants, wherein 0 mole % to less than 50 mole % of the second dispersant molecules contain a carbocyclic ring. The invention further provides a method for lubricating a mechanical device using the lubricating composition.

  • Patent number: 8536103
Abstract: A liquid extreme pressure agent for use in lubricating compositions where the lubricating compositions comprise an oil of lubricating viscosity and the reaction product of: (a) a thiazole; (b) a composition comprising a carboxylic acid, a phosphorus containing acid or salt, or combinations thereof; and (c) an amine containing one or more branched hydrocarbyl groups. The invention also provides an additive composition comprising the reaction product described above and a process for making lubricating compositions, including greases, from the reaction product.

  • Patent number: 7732385
Abstract: Disclosed are lubricating oil additives obtained by dissolving or reacting (A) a metal salt of a specific phosphorus compound which is insoluble or less soluble in lubricating oils in or with (B) an amine compound so as to be solved in the lubricating oils; a lubricating oil composition containing such an additive; a method of producing the additive and composition.

  • Patent number: 6180575
Abstract: Lubricating oils useful as gear oils, circulating oils, compressor oils and in other applications characterized by and excellent balance of anti-wear and anti-rust characteristics are based on high quality base stocks including a major portion of a hydrocarbon base fluid such as a PAO with a secondary base stock component which is preferably a long chain alkylated aromatic, such as an alkylnaphthalene. A synergistic combination of additives comprising an adduct of a substituted triazole such as benzotriazole or a substituted benzotriazole, e.g. tolyltriazole (TTZ) with an amine phosphate and a trihydrocarbyl phosphate such as cresyl diphenylphosphate (CDP), confers the desired balance of anti-wear and anti-rust properties. In addition, the present oils typically include an anti-oxidant component and a rust inhibitor together with other optional additive components.

  • Patent number: 5817605
Abstract: Oil-based functional fluid compositions formulated for use as automatic transmission fluid, fluid for a wet brake system, or a friction-depending lubricant are improved by including in the composition a minor amount of at least one alcohol or polyol having less than 12 carbon atoms in the molecule. This results in a desirable increase in the dynamic and/or static coefficients of friction of automatic transmission or other frictional surfaces contacted by the composition. Preferred for this use is a composition formed by heating at least one ashless dispersant containing basic nitrogen and/or at least one hydroxyl group with a combination of at least (i) an inorganic acid of phosphorus, (ii) a boron compound, and (iii) a polyol having less than 12 carbon atoms, so that a liquid composition is formed. The boron compound and the inorganic phosphorus acid are preferably co-present during the heating.
