  • Patent number: 6281180
Abstract: An automatic dishwashing detergent composition is described which contains an effective amount of a defined water soluble cationic or amphoteric polymer and a phosphate or nonphosphate builder. The polymers are soluble or dispersible to at least 0.01% by weight in distilled water at 25° C. A method of using the polymers to prevent fading or corrosion of dishware is also described.

  • Patent number: 6254801
Abstract: Hardness-stabilizing and scale-preventing aqueous percarboxylic acid solutions contain a hardness stabilizer selected from the group (i) polymers prepared by oxidative polymerization of acrolein or of acrolein and acrylic acid, (ii) polyacrylic acid, (iii) copolymers of acrylic acid and another unsaturated carboxylic acid and (iv) polymaleic acid, wherein the average molecular weight Mw of the hardness stabilizer is in the range 500 to 25000, and the solutions are obtained by adding the hardness stabilizer to a percarboxylic acid solution. Preferred solutions contain a hardness stabilizer (i) with a Mw of 1000 to 15000. The solutions may also contain a surfactant. The solution can be used for controlling microorganisms in aqueous systems, in particular water-circulating systems.

  • Patent number: 6211131
Abstract: Sequestering agents for use as a whitening and fabric strength enhancer for aqueous hypochlorite bleach compositions are provided. It was found that the sequesterants when used with hypochlorite in the presence of soluble heavy metal ions, particularly iron and manganese ions, provide significantly improved whitening and fabric protection. Most preferably, the sequesterants are selected from polyacrylic acid, a polyacrylic acid derivative, a copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and a comonomer which is maleic acid or maleic anhydride and mixtures thereof.

  • Patent number: 6211141
Abstract: A high-density powdered detergent composition which has a bulk density of 0.6 to 1.2 g/ml and which comprises 0.5 to 30% by weight of (a) a glycine-N,N-diacetic acid derivative, 5 to 45% by weight of (b) a nonionic surfactant having an HLB value of 10.5 to 15.0, 0.5 to 18% by weight of (c) an anionic surfactant and 1 to 30% by weight of (d) an aluminosilicate, each percentage being based on the total weight of the composition, and the weight ratio of the component (b) to the component (c) lying between 90:1 and 60:40. This composition contains both a glycine-N,N-diacetic acid derivative which is a builder excellent in biodegradability and sequestering power and an inorganic builder such as zeolite or crystalline silicate, and exhibits high detergency.
