  • Patent number: 6403551
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and composition provide a long-term, solid cartridge made of cleaning cleaning agents mixed at an equilibrium concentration with a solubility limiting agent for controlling an equilibrium concentration of the composition in a solvent, such as water, for example. In use, the cleaning agents are dissolved only to a predetermined concentration needed for a single dose of a cleaning appliance, such as a clothes washing machine, for example. The apparatus may be configured to cyclically expose the solid cartridge to the solvent. A dosing amount of the solvent dissolves a pre-determined concentration of cleaning agents, controlled by the solubility limiting agent. The apparatus discharges the dose of cleaning agent to a cleaning appliance, and readies itself again by dissolving a dose of cleaning agent from a surface of the solid cartridge into the solvent.

  • Patent number: 6133214
Abstract: A portioned detergent composition in a bag of water-soluble film in which at least 70% by weight of the particles of the detergent composition have particle sizes above 800 .mu.m. The choice of this particular particle size range eliminates otherwise typical production-related problems arising out of the permeability of the bag seams and resulting difficulties.

  • Patent number: 6040286
Abstract: A through-the-washer-dryer pouch-type detergent bag and method of use. The detergent bag is made of air and water permeable material and it has an interior chamber having a total volume V. A predetermined weight and volume of granular detergent particulate is deposited in said chamber. The volume of the detergent particulate is in a specific range and the remaining air volume of the chamber is also in a specific range. The pouch type detergent bag puffs up when it is dropped into water and air fills the unoccupied space of the chamber. As water permeates the interior chamber of the bag, the water dissolves the detergent and the detergent and air are forced out of the chamber causing the detergent bag to flatten and collapse. As the detergent bag continues through the wash cycle it curls up and becomes a wad of material.

  • Patent number: 6037319
Abstract: Water-soluble packets containing liquid cleaning concentrates are provided. The packets are stable despite the presence of any minor amount of water in the cleaning concentrates. Also provided are methods of cleaning in which the packets are added to a volume of water to dissolve and form a cleaning solution, which is used to clean a material.

  • Patent number: 6032495
Abstract: A wash ball comprises an upper and an lower case half both of which have a semi-spherical shell body with openings formed thereon. The connecting end of the upper case half is provided on the end surface with a plurality of cavities and on the peripheral surface with outer screw threads. The lower case half is also provided with openings on the shell body and a plurality of embossed round dots on the end surface and an annular flange around the connecting end. The annular flange has internal screw threads formed on the inner wall surface. With such an arrangement, the upper and the lower case half can be put together to enclose solid detergent therein by means of the engagement of screw threads. When the upper case half links with the lower case half to form a wash ball, each embossed round dot extends into a cavity to prevent the ball from loosened in water. The wash ball has the advantages of simplified structure and assembling processes.

  • Patent number: 6017864
Abstract: We have found that long standing problems relating to the stability of organic materials in alkaline detergents, including the reversion or hydrolysis of condensed phosphate sequestrants in alkaline solid detergent compositions can be alleviated by the use of an organic composition having vicinal hydroxyls. Such a solid block detergent can be manufactured by a process in which a source of alkalinity, a functional material including a condensed phosphate sequestering agent, an organic compound having two vicinal hydroxyl groups, are combined in a pourable composition or liquid. Such a liquid can be introduced into a plastic capsule and solidified. During manufacture and solidification, we have found that the vicinal hydroxyl compound prevents substantial hydrolysis or reversion of the condensed phosphate maintaining effective hardness ion sequestration during the use of the detergent. The stabilizer can also stabilizes color, chlorine content and dispensing properties.

  • Patent number: 6012308
Abstract: An apparatus for magnetically laundering garments with permanent ceramic magnets compiled in unique configuration with a flux density of at least 3,900 gauss at a pole face thereof, thick plastisol casing to protect magnets from water and washing machine agitation; the magnet configuration ionizes water, increasing the natural solvency to assist in releasing stains and odors in fabrics; design, size and the casing make it practical for use in washing machine, uses specially calibrated magnetism to alter the basic nature of water and increase its natural solvency by ionization for usage in a laundry machine, and a preferred embodiment includes the magnets as a rare earth magnet.
