  • Patent number: 8763330
Abstract: Insulation spacer devices, methods and related construction techniques are provided. An exemplary device may include a body having a plurality of openings defining an openwork, to allow the passage of air therethrough when placed in contact with insulation material. The device may further include a plurality of spacer struts and/or spacing depressions fixedly attached to the body. The struts may be configured to maintain a predetermined distance between a first side of the insulation material and a building surface. The body and struts act together to define and maintain a space between the first side of the insulation material and the building surface, for example, for ventilation. The building surface can be the bottom face of a roof, an insulated attic floor, wall sheathing or a soundproofed demising wall, for example. The spacer device can be capable of being transported and stored together with, or as a separate item from, the insulation material, and can also be stored in nested layers.

  • Patent number: 6871468
Abstract: The present invention relates to an interlocking masonry wall block having two spaced lugs or projections and a cooperating recess or channel that enable like-shaped blocks to be stacked in a staggered relation to form straight and serpentine walls that are particularly suited for landscaping applications. In one embodiment, the lugs are located proximal the sides of the block and extend from an upper surface of the block. The channel is formed in a lower surface of the block. In another embodiment, the lugs are located at the rear corners of the block and extend below the lower surface of the block. The recess is formed in the rear end of the block between the lugs. Like-shaped blocks are stacked in a staggered relation so that each block is stacked atop two immediately lower blocks. In each embodiment, the lugs and their cooperating channel or recess define a setback dimension.

  • Patent number: 6547488
Abstract: The greens maintenance system is specifically directed to lawn areas with lawn grass covering underlying soil, and the soil having a given seepage rate defined by an amount of water allowed to seep into the soil per unit of time. The system includes a water collection device disposed to collect runoff water during and immediately after precipitation exceeding a seepage rate of the soil and to collect runoff water running off from surfaces adjacent the lawn area, such as roofs, driveways, and the like. A storage container communicates with the water collection device and stores the runoff water collected by the water collection device. An active irrigation system communicates with the storage container, for irrigating the lawn area during periods of reduced precipitation. Elongate dividers are strategically placed in the soil underlying the lawn surface for reducing a velocity of the water running across the lawn area.

  • Patent number: 6523300
Abstract: A slope guard device having one or more panels formed of impervious material, interlocking along their periphery to form a rigid annular unit capable of encircling a planted area on a slope. The panels define an inner side adjacent to roots, and an outer side remote from roots, said panels of varying heights to allow a user to customize a slope profile to a slope where taller panels support the slope above the planted area. Vanes extend from the panels and project inwardly from the inner side of the panels. The vanes direct root growth. Vents are attachable to some of the vanes each having an open upper end and open lower end, said vents providing additional structural support for the slope guard. The vents guide steel stakes that can be driven into the ground.
