U-shaped Channel Formed Of Separate Strips Overlapping Pane Edge, Front, And Back Patents (Class 52/204.71)
  • Publication number: 20080127581
Abstract: The present invention is a security window insert assembly retrofit to existing insulated windows (double or other multi-pane windows). The assembly generally comprises a tubular steel gridwork anchored in a substantially rectangular spacer, and opposing panes of glass adhered to the sides of the spacer such that the gridwork occupies and is suspended in the airspace between the panes of glass. The tubular gridwork comprises a gridwork of or more horizontal and one or more vertical struts leading to distal ends press-fit into the spacer. The result is a double pane window unit that may be installed within a window frame in a conventional manner. However, the security grating erects an impenetrable shield between the interior surfaces of the panes, and since it remains anchored in the spacers it cannot be removed.

Abstract: A window assembly which includes at least some components which may be assembled in a snap-fit manner. In certain example embodiments, a combination of rotation/pivoting insertion, and a snap-fit assembly engagement of one or more components may be utilized in assembly. For example, a component may be engaged with a portion of another component, and then rotated and/or pivoted about a pivot axis until a portion of the component becomes engaged with a part of the window in a snap-fit manner. The combined use of rotation/pivoting about a pivot axis and snap-fit engagement allows for self-alignment to be realized during assembly thereby simplifying the assembly process.

The vertical member profiles and the cross member profiles comprise sealing grooves (5, 6, 9) for sealing strips (10, 13, 13.1) on which said insulating glass panes (102) can be supported. The bottoms of said sealing grooves (5) for the sealing strips (10) and, preferably, the bottoms of the receiving grooves (8) for the leakage water of the cross member profiles (2) rest on the sealing grooves (6, 9) of the sealing strips (13, 13.1) of the vertical member profiles (1). The single-part or multi-part sealing strips (13, 13.1) of the vertical profiles are higher than the searing strips (10) of the cross member profiles in such a way that the sealing strips (10, 13, 13.1) of the cross member profiles and the vertical member profiles occlude in a common plane.
