Specific Studding Arrangement For Door, Doorjamb, Or Window Sash Patents (Class 52/210)
  • Patent number: 11236541
Abstract: The present application relates to an arrangement for reducing thermal energy loss through a sill assembly of the type used with a door or window. The sill assembly includes at least one sill member. The at least one sill member has a hollow region therein. The sill assembly further includes a baffle disposed within the at least one sill member. The baffle spans a length of the at least one sill member and divides the at least one sill member into a plurality of chambers thereby limiting interaction of warmer air and cooler air within the at least one sill member. The baffle reduces heat transfer through the hollow region via convection.

Abstract: Interfaces between nosings on respective frames and frame combinations to be joined. Each nosing has an elongate receptacle extending along the nosing length. A remote wall of the receptacle is displaced from the remainder of the nosing. The remote wall on the nosings to be joined can be generally aligned with and proximate the receptacle opening on the other nosing. With the remote walls and respective receptacles aligned, the frames are moved toward each other with the remote walls on the respective nosings entering the receptacles, with the remote walls in generally facing relationship with each other. Spacings and tolerances of the remote walls, and corresponding receptacles, can optionally provide frictionally-restrained engagements of the remote walls in the receptacles, whereby the frames can be re-oriented with limited assembly support to such assembly without disengagement of the nosings from each other by the action of gravity.

Abstract: A window casing system includes a kit to completely finish the insides of windows in homes and offices. An installer provides key measurements of the window opening height, width, and depth, to the factory. Custom pre-finished jambs, casings, sills, and aprons are then packaged and delivered in a kit to the jobsite for installation. Plastic fasteners with ribbed shanks are included in the kit for the installer to press into holes and dados in the jambs, casings, and sill to permanently join them together. The top corner miters of the side and top casings are joined with unique, ribbed plastic corner elbows for tight, perfectly aligned joints. The whole is then either nailed, glued, or otherwise fastened into the window opening.

Abstract: A composite reinforced mull post is disclosed or use in an exterior building entryway assembly, engaging a door on one side and a side light window on the other side. The mull post may comprise a polymer profile portion and first and second reinforcing members. The profile portion comprises a layer of polyvinyl chloride with a hollow center. The first reinforcing member comprises an engineered material such as a wood laminate, and the second reinforcing member comprises a U-shaped steel channel that fits around one end of the first reinforcing member. The reinforcing members are received within the hollow center of the polymer profile portion and run the entire length of the mull post to provide substantial rigidity to the assembly. A polymer cap layer may be co-extruded on the outer surface of the polymer profile portion to provide the mull post with a desired finished surface appearance and/or color.

Abstract: A plastic window frame trim is for installation of a window in a corrugated metal building wall having a cut opening with a top edge, bottom edge, and side edges, each of the edges being backed by framing members. The window frame trim includes: a frame header J-channel with a flange; a frame footer J-channel with a flange; a pair of nailing fins; and fasteners. The trim header J-channel, footer J-channel, and nailing fins are attached to the window frame. The window frame is lifted so frame header J-channel flange slides between the top edge of the metal building wall and a framing member at the top of the cut opening. The window is lowered so footer J-channel flange slides between the bottom edge of the metal building wall and a framing member at the bottom of the cut opening so that window frame rest on the window sill. Fasteners attach the window frame to the framing members through the metal building wall. Trim caps snap over the nailing fins to finish the trimmed window.

  • Patent number: 8069625
Abstract: Fire resistant door, glazing, and mullion frames include intumescent material at least partially embedded in the frame adjacent the door or glazing. Trim materials are positioned over the intumescent material to prevent tampering with and damage to the intumescent material while improving the aesthetic appearance of the frame. The jamb trim has a thickness that allows heat to be transmitted to the intumescent material in the event of a fire so that the intumescent material will expand and fill a clearance space between the frame and the door or glazing. The expanded intumescent material retards the passage of heat and, by sealing the clearance space, inhibits the transmission of smoke, flames and gases from one side of the door or glazing to the other. After expanding, the intumescent material will char and solidify, which may provide an added benefit of structural support for the door or glazing.
