  • Patent number: 5167073
Abstract: An installation frame to facilitate the mounting of a door frame in a rough opening in a domestic or commerical structure which includes parallel stanchions to be disposed, and secured, one on each side jamb, of the prepared frame. The stanchions with suitable horizontal spacers, are secured inside the jambs and the assembly is placed in the rough opening in a building and clamped in place. A first pair of crossed cables extending from the corners indicates, by included measuring devices, whether the frame is square. A second set of crossed cables extending from the corners indicates, by the closeness of cables at the crossing point, whether the frame is in a single plane and not askew. Adjustments are made to insure squareness and proper plane position and then the prepared jamb is centered in the opening and nailed in place.

  • Patent number: 5155956
Abstract: A metal subframe is anchored into an opening in a building wall as the wall is being built. A factory-glazed and factory-welded metal frame is snapped into the subframe conveniently from inside of the building. integral one-way clips or latches automatically align, center and permanently capture the frame as it is installed in the subframe, and no field welding is thus required. The latches are internal and inaccessible when locked, thereby making this metal window construction well suited for security installations.

Abstract: A slide mechanism for providing non-binding adjustment of the spacing between the components of an elongated structural member such as the vertical and horizontal frame members of a door or window frame for accommodating different buck widths during installation. The slide mechanism comprises a channel member and a tongue member adapted to slideably engage one another in loosely fitting relation to preclude binding during width adjustment. Each frame member is preferably provided with at least two such sliding mechanisms of which preferably one provides a dimpled channel member for assuring precise transverse registry of the frame components. By dimpling only one such channel member, a degree of non-binding angular or rotational motion between frame components is provided to facilitate easy installation.

  • Patent number: 4714367
Abstract: Coupling assembly joining two profiled rails, more particularly for use with a shower partition, the first profiled rail having an opening extending over its entire length and an inner space. A clamping element is mounted in this inner space and has a threaded hole in which a screw threads, the second profiled rail being secured to the first profiled rail by tightening of the said screw. In order to facilitate assembly and make it possible to carry out subsequent mutual alignment of the profiled rails with little effort, there is provided that the clamping element be insertable from the side and at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the first profiled rail through the above-mentioned opening and into the inner space, one leg of the second profiled rail passing through the opening into the inner space. This leg is clamped in a gap which is formed between a bearing surface of the clamping element and a web of the first profiled rail and/or a support element.

  • Patent number: 4702051
Abstract: A window insert assembly is disclosed having a spring-biased frame construction used to secure the insert within existing window frames of varying size. The insert assembly is particularly useful for mounting interiorly of an existing window pane to form a "double pane" insulative window structure, i.e., by creating a thermal cavity between the interior side of the existing window pane and the window pane of the insert. The insert assembly comprises a solid pane, such as a glass pane, mounted in a first frame. The first frame is received within a second frame which has movable sides for changing the size of the second frame. Springs are provided between the second frame and the first frame, preferably on all four sides of the rectangular window insert assembly, which bias the second frame outwardly relative to the first frame. The size of the second frame is adjustable by pressing one or more sides against this bias to fit the insert within an existing window frame in which it is to be installed.

  • Patent number: 4589229
Abstract: A door jamb assembly for varied installations in a conventional rough cut door opening disposed in a wall, the assembly including first, second, and third elongated members for mounting on the sides and top of the rough cut door opening to form a pair of door jambs and a header. Two of the elongated members are configured so that they will mate on one end thereof to the first elongated member and on the other end thereof to a portion of the other elongated member between the ends thereof, these two elongated members being essentially mirror images of each other. As a result, a door jamb assembly is provided which can be installed in various width door openings to provide jambs for doors which can be hung with left or right hinges and which open in or out. Additionally, the width of the jambs and header is variable to accommodate walls of different thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 4541212
Abstract: This invention is an adjustable frame member or jamb for a wall opening and a method for making it. It consists of two side-by-side jamb members, a spring and a stop. The stop is attached to one jamb member in an overhanging or step-like relationship. The spring is inserted into the back of this member so that an elongated portion defines a slot with the overhanging portion of the stop. Narrow kerfs are appropriately let into the back of the jamb and the door stop for anchoring the arm portions of the spring. The second jamb member is slid into the slot defined by the stop and spring, where it is firmly gripped by the spring. By forming one mounting point for the spring in the back of the stop, a short lever arm is maintained to better resist any prying or dislodging forces applied against the spring caused by the other jamb member. The artical can conveniently be made by first attaching one edge of the stop to a jamb of the narrowest width expected in use.

  • Patent number: 4539784
Abstract: An adjustable device for anchoring door jambs of various sizes in a fast and efficient manner. The device includes one or more frame members which receive a pair of overlapping L-shaped planar members in sliding engagement with each other. Each frame member is generally of an L-shaped configuration having vertical and horizontal planar portions, and with a lip formed along the outer edge of the horizontal portion to provide a slot for use in retaining the overlapping members. The overlapping members each have vertical and horizontal planar portions, with the horizontal portions being of sufficient length to allow the length of the overall anchor to be varied by slidably positioning the overlapping members relative to each other. The position of each frame member relative to the overlapping members can also be adjusted to correspond with the shape and construction of a particular door jamb.
