Abstract: An integral passageway is formed in a manhole construction to establish communication between an upper inlet to the manhole and a bottom outlet. Precast sections having such a passageway formed therein may be employed to build a desired height of the manhole, an upper one of the sections having an inlet for connection to a service line and the precast sections being stacked such that the upright passageways therein are in vertical alignment.
Abstract: A secondary handhole is placed in a small excavation in the ground to a depth where its cover is at ground level. It is a comparatively lightweight, portable, substantially strong and essentially unitary structure, which is shipped ready for installation at an excavation site. It provides a protective housing for secondary cable connections of underground electrical utlities and assures their prompt location by observing its ground surface level cover. The secondary handhole, in one embodiment made of fiberglass, has a three-sided rectangular body, with two sides being spaced by a reinforcing cross member extending across the bottom. There are vertical notches in the body at its open end, which extend from the top to a point just below the midline of the body to receive a removable gate extending between the two sides at an elevation higher than the location of the reinforcing cross member.
Abstract: An underground station is provided with an access cover assembly including a frame extending about an access opening and a cover hingedly attached to said frame. A support member is attached to said frame and extends about the periphery of the access opening. Attaching members are slidably mounted to said support member so that they may be positioned to any desired location about the periphery of the access opening. Fastening means are provided for fixing said attaching members at desired locations about the support member and for fastening station accessories to the attaching member so that the accessories may be mounted in preferred locations in a particular station.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for preventing an underground manhole assembly from moving upwards in response to a change in soil conditions beneath the assembly are disclosed herein. For example, in the event the soil directly beneath the assembly includes substantial moisture and in the event this moisture freezes, the latter expands against the base of the assembly and in many cases pushes the assembly in an upward direction. The method and arrangement disclosed herein eliminates this upward movement by the utilization of a pressurized fluid barrier which is maintained between the manhole assembly and the soil directly beneath the assembly.
