Barbs are included on the outer portion of the shell to facilitate mounting thereof. The foam firestopping seal portion can be intumescent.

Abstract: A fire resistant and water resistant expansion joint system comprises a compressed lamination of fire retardant infused open celled foam, one coat of an elastomeric waterproofing or water resistant material on the lamination, and another coat of an intumescent material on an opposing surface of the lamination, thereby providing fire resistance in one direction and water resistance in the opposite direction. The intumescent material may be further coated with a similar elastomeric material, thereby providing fire resistance in one direction and water resistance in both directions. In the alternative, the compressed lamination may comprise first and second opposing layers of intumescent material thereon each having a respective layer of elastomeric material to provide both water resistance and fire resistance in both directions.

Abstract: The present invention provides for a bracket for use in a metal stud wall having internal bridging members for tying the metal studs and bridging members together. The bracket is an L shaped bracket having a leg for overlying the bridging member joined to an upright for overlying the metal stud. The outside corners of the leg and upright of the L shaped bracket are truncated such that the diagonal dimension across the L-shaped bracket is less than the width of the channel of the metal stud so that the bracket may be inserted within the channel of the metal stud and rotated to the proper position for attaching to the bridging member and metal stud.

Abstract: An expansion joint system has a cover plate; a spline attached to the cover plate along a first edge of the spline; and two portions of open celled foam, each portion being located on an opposing face of the spline. The open celled foam has a fire-retardant material infused therein and layers of waterproof elastomer disposed thereon. The spline depends from the cover plate and is positioned in a gap between substantially coplanar substrates such that the cover plate overlies the gap. Each portion of the open celled foam is compressed between a respective face of the spline and a face of one of the coplanar substrates. An intumescent material may be incorporated into the spline.

Abstract: A fire stop dimensioned to fit a selected size opening. The fire stop comprises end plates, a central shaft member retaining the end plates apart from one another, and a core between the end plates that comprises fire putty and mineral wool. The thickness and density of the mineral wool layer and/or the fire putty layer are chosen to achieve a particular fire rating within the constraints of the overall dimensional thickness of the slab. The fire stop has a low profile rendering it non-obstructing, can be inserted by a single installer from above a floor slab or into a wall, and further can be removed for inspection and/or replacement as needed. The fire putty layer swells under heat filling remaining gaps between the fire stop and the opening.

  • Patent number: 8141319
Abstract: A bracketing system is provided having two brackets joined by a flexible adhesive material that allows bridging or backing members of variable lengths and widths to be mounted between vertical studs to enhance stability of the wall construction. A wall construction assembly according to an embodiment of the invention comprises two vertical studs and a bridge backing member mounted there between by a bracketing system, which includes a left bracket and a right bracket connected by a flexible adhesive material. Because the bridge backing member can be adjustably sized to be secured on the brackets, it can be sized to fit between studs regardless of any variation in the spacing of the studs. This obviates the need to prefabricate bridge backing members to fit between variably spaced studs. The bridge backing member can be mounted flush with the stud to eliminate unevenness in the wall structure. Bridge or backing members of various widths and lengths can be mounted to the bracketing system.
