Abstract: A facade/wall system comprises a number of modules. Each module comprises a plurality of insulating panels which have connection means on opposite sides thereof for interengaging the panels together at joints between the panels. Reinforcing elements in the form of top hat sections bridge the joints between adjacent panels. The top hat reinforcement elements used to interconnect adjacent panels in a module ensure that the composite panels act together as monolithic structure that creates a diaphragm while providing a surface to which cladding can be fixed and also providing a cavity between the panels and the cladding attached to the modules. They stiffen the panels and thereby enhance resistance to deflection. The system is cost effective and relatively easy and quick to install.

  • Patent number: 7739848
Abstract: An insulated building panel includes a male connector configuration as well as a female connector configuration that are both formed of generally bent surfaces. The male connector as well as the female connector extends outwardly from the side faces of an insulating foam core so that the foam is protected from damage. The male connector is formed by bending the metal edge into a generally U shaped configuration with the outer edge of the U bent downwardly towards the interior of the panel. The female connector is bent back almost towards itself and terminates in a curvilinear gutter portion. The female portion includes a detent edge that defines a shallow receptacle into which a male detent edge is inserted so as to lock the male and female connectors in a nested position, thereby securing two panels together.

Abstract: A building member including a male portion and a female portion that are releasably connected together. The male portion includes a first beam having a first pair of wings joined together by a first crosspiece. A first bracket has first opposed ends each of which is affixed to a respective one of the first pair of wings so as to define a first slot between the first crosspiece and the first bracket. A tongue has an inner end that is affixed to the first crosspiece and an outer end, remote from the inner end, which extends through the first slot and outwardly from the first beam. The outer end of the tongue is provided with a first hole. The female portion, however, has a second beam that is adapted for end-to-end abutment with the first beam. The second beam has a second pair of wings that are joined together by a second crosspiece.

Abstract: A support structure (1) that includes a support panel (11), at least one pile (14) having associated therewith at least one bracket (17) and at least one mounting strap (20), is described. Each bracket (17) includes a lower portion (70), at least one extension (91, 92) extending upward from the lower portion (70), and a retainer (85) extending outward from a first surface (73) of the lower portion (70). The retainer (85) of the bracket (17) is received within an aperture (67) of an apertured sidewall (64, 215, 218) of the pile (14). At least one mounting strap (20, 23) maintains: the first surface (73) of the lower portion (70) of the bracket (17) in abutting relationship with the apertured sidewall (64) of the pile; and the retainer (85) within the aperture (67) thereof. A first surface (94) of the extension (91, 92) of the bracket (17) and the apertured sidewall (64) of the pile (14) together define a vertical slot (112) having an open top (115) and a closed bottom (118).

  • Patent number: 7444791
Abstract: A locking system to mechanically joins floorboards together. For horizontal mechanical joining, there is a projecting portion with a locking element which cooperates with a locking groove in an adjacent board. A tongue and groove joint for vertical mechanical joining, has coopering upper abutment surfaces and cooperating lower abutment surfaces which are essentially parallel with the principal plane of the floorboards and of which the lower abutment surfaces are positioned essentially outside the outer vertical plane, i.e. displaced relative to the upper abutment surfaces. The tongue is movable at an angle into the groove and the locking element is insertable into the locking groove by mutual angular movement of the boards about the joint edges.

  • Patent number: 7434364
Abstract: A pair of upright wall panels are each provided with a sidewardly spaced pair of generally parallel but inclined guide grooves extending vertically along the outer face of the upright frame edge rails. A connector assembly including a main activator rod having a pair of wedge members threaded thereon in spaced relationship therealong is positioned between the opposed upright edge rails. The wedge members have wedgelike edge flanges which protrude into the grooves of the opposed upright edge rails. Rotation of the activating rod causes the wedge members to simultaneously move relative to the rod in opposite directions between a first end position wherein the wedge members effect gripping engagement with the groove walls to simultaneously effect a drawing together of the edge rails and alignment thereof, and a second end position wherein the wedge members clampingly engage only a single edge rail to facilitate initial mounting of the connector assembly.
