  • Publication number: 20010004815
Abstract: Lintels having metal side plates are described. In an exemplary embodiment, a lintel constructed in accordance with the present invention includes a generally rectangular frame of a height, length and thickness substantially corresponding to the dimensions of the opening in which the lintel is to be installed. The frame is formed by connected, first and second elongate chord members (e.g., nominal “2×N” members) that extend in spaced, substantially parallel, overlying relationship to each other. The subject lintel also includes at least one generally rectangular, metal side plate having at least first and second spaced groupings of integrally formed teeth extending from one side along opposite longitudinal edges thereof. The respective teeth groupings engage the first and second chords.

  • Publication number: 20010001918
Abstract: A pre-hung door and door frame in combination with nesting door posts. Preferably, the door posts have a central channel extending into contact with a door jamb soffit and one of the door jamb stops. The header includes a header tab extending from a nailing flange into a area defined by the door jamb rabbet, face and back bends to provide a more rigid connection between the header and the door jamb. The header also includes a pair of door jamb tabs integral with the header for securing the header relative to the door jambs.

  • Patent number: 6209269
Abstract: An assembly system used to build two pane thermoacoustic windows for houses and buildings is provided. The assembly system uses a set of profiles and joints and a permanently installed valve to assemble the window frame without a fusion welding machine. The system creates an airtight chamber directly on the frame. The valve allows the assembler to evacuate the air in the airtight chamber to make a vacuum, or to inflow a gas. The system improves the insulating thermal and acoustic capacity of the window, and allows a supplier to sell the components to build the window, which is then assembled by snapping together profiles and joints. The system can also be applied to assembly one pane window and for other purposes.

  • Patent number: 6170210
Abstract: A continuous gear hinge, having extruded aluminum leaves and an extruded aluminum cap which holds the leaves together at meshed gear segments on the leaves, has the capacity to establish a seal between the door and hinge jamb to which it is attached. That seal derives from intumescent strips which lie in recesses that open out of the of the leaves. In the presence of a fire, the intumescent material, the strips of which extend the full length of the hinge, expands and bonds to the door and hinge jamb to not only seal the space between the two, but also to secure the door should the hinge lose its capacity to hold the door.
