The backing stud may be characterized in that (i) the ratio of the width of the web portion to the width of the backing stud flanges ranges from about 8 to 16, (ii) the ratio of the width of the backing stud flanges to width of the outer returns is at least about one, and (iii) the ratio of the width of the plurality of studs to the width of the outer returns ranges from about 6 to 8.     Abstract: An apparatus for bracing a masonry wall that is bowing or has begun to buckle as a result of hydrostatic pressure and/or other forces as may occur with the foundation or basement wall of a building. The wall restraint system includes a vertically disposed beam, which is positioned against a vertical concrete masonry wall and secured in place by a bottom bracket and a top bracket. The beam reinforces the wall and prevents further bowing, buckling, or potentially collapsing of the wall. One end of the beam is secured to the floor by a bottom bracket. The bottom bracket preferably receives the lower end of the beam. The upper end of the beam is secured against the basement wall by a top bracket or offset connector, which in turn is secured to one of the overhead floor joists. The beam may be offset to avoid piping or the like.

The plate is selected to have a shear load capacity greater than the shear panel without the opening. The plate has a plate opening similar to the panel opening, and is secured to the panel with a predetermined strength and arrangement of panel fasteners. The plate is sized to fit between adjacent structural members. Opposing side flanges extend outwardly from the plate. Flange fasteners of predetermined strength and spacings are used to secure the flanges to the structural members.

    Abstract: A truss system wherein the structural components and fixtures are formed from light gauge metal. The trusses are fabricated from roll formed truss chord members and truss web members. The truss chord members are roll formed to have a generally U-shaped cross-section with a base and two substantially parallel legs with recessed web attachment faces and outwardly extending stiffening flanges to improve structural capacity thus improving the strength-to-weight ratio of the chord member and minimizing costs. The truss web members are formed by nesting two roll formed C-shaped members to form a web member which is box-shaped in cross section. The web members provide the structural advantages of a box-shaped member and the ease and flexibility of a roll formed member.

    Abstract: A clip is used to fasten a wall panel to a frame rail. The clip is fitted to the rail and has paul-like tabs which locate in apertures in a side wall of the rail. Corresponding apertures are provided on the edge of the wall. When the edge of the wall is inserted into the clip, the pawl-like tabs snap-fit through the apertures and into the apertures, thereby captively retaining the wall to the rail. Alternatively, the clip may be formed integrally with a rail by pressing out a flap from a side wall of the rail. Each flap has a pawl-like indent. Corresponding apertures are provided on the edge of a wall sheet. When the edge of the wall sheet is inserted between the flaps and the rail, the pawl-like indents locate in the apertures, thereby captively retaining the wall sheets to the rail.

    Abstract: A spanning or beam member for use in construction having a pair of opposing C-shaped flanges and a corrugated web. Laterally extended protrusions of the web strengthens the beam member by stiffening the web and increasing the load bearing forces that may be carried by the beam member without crushing. The C-shape of the flanges allows welding of the flanges to the protrusions of the web to reduce the unbraced and unstiffened size of the compression elements to allow for construction of beam members of a given strength out of thinner sheet material. An end plate secures to the opposing flanges and to the corrugated web interposed therebetween, providing a superior means for interconnecting the beam members.
