Patent number: 8448401Abstract: A combined thermal insulation barrier and installation guide for fiber cement siding. A rectangular insulating board has a flat, rectangular back surface, and a front surface shaped to form a number of flat-faced, protruding ridges, aligned parallel to an edge of the rectangle. The cross-section, taken orthogonal to the ridges has a saw-tooth shape. When a standard-size, fiber cement plank is placed face-down on a face of a ridge with its edge abutting the short face of an adjacent ridge, and a second board is placed face-down on an adjacent ridge, the second board overlaps first board and lies flat on the first board. Once the shaped insulating board is aligned to a required orientation, and attached on a building surface, it serves as a positioning guide for attaching fiber cement boards. Left in the siding, the shaped, insulating board acts as insulation throughout the life of the siding.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2011Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: Fiber Cement Foam Systems Insulation, LLCInventor: Russ Schaefer

Patent number: 8434283Abstract: The painting method disclosed is carried out by providing a curable liquid paint composition and an edging product having a colored surface and an adhesive surface opposite to the colored surface. The colored surface of the edging product is preferably a previously manufactured surface closely matching the to-be-used paint composition once the paint composition has been permitted to cure. The edging strip is permanently affixed onto a wall to be painted with the curable paint composition, with an edge of the edging strip contacting a surface bordering the wall or surface which is not to be painted with the curable liquid paint composition. The wall is then painted with the curable liquid paint composition, and the curable liquid paint composition is partly overlapped onto the edging product. The method provides a crisp even line at the interface between the wall and the bordering surface.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2010Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Inventor: Michelee Bartolo-Howell

Patent number: 8387337Abstract: The purpose of this invention is to decrease labor involved in waterproofing via flashing and termination of a pliable membrane roofing system at its perimeters and vertical junctures. As opposed to a standard two piece membrane flashing, the invention provides for a single piece of membrane to be used. The single piece of membrane would be taken from that which has already been installed on the flat portion of the roof. The loose section would be folded and the folded section would be anchored to the roof or vertical junctures. The piece now left loose would be folded over the anchoring device and terminated on the roof or vertical juncture. There are 3 devices disclosed which are intended to serve the purpose of anchoring the folded portion of roof. Elimination of the two piece flashing will greatly decrease the labor involved in roof installation with no loss in roof performance.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2008Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Inventor: Henry Lee Hamlin, III

Patent number: 8062762Abstract: A plywood comprising plys of Paulowina wood combined with plys of other hardwoods. The resulting Paulowina based plywood panels are lightweight, approximately 40% lighter than ordinary plywood. This reduction in weight when used for construction of Recreational vehicles (RV's), Campers, Tractor-trailer box sides, Ocean Shipping boxes, Crates, and Steamer trunks will reduce associated fuel consumption by reducing the overall weight of the cargo, and can lower employee related injury. The resulting Paulowina based plywood panels will reduce work place injury (lower back pain, herniated disks, hernia, etc.) resulting in lower healthcare premiums for both employees and employers. The shipping industry that supply cargo shipping boxes also demand that a lightweight construction material be used for goods that are sent by air cargo, land cargo, rail, and sea cargo in order to conserve energy and the Paulowina based plywood panels are well suited for these applications.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2009Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: East Coast Lumber CompanyInventor: William Francis Stalter
