Patent number: 11124977Abstract: A robotic constructing system based on a cable-driven robot for constructing a structure formed by objects such as bricks is provided. The process of laying the bricks is performed by the cable-driven robot autonomously. The bricks are provided to the robotic constructing system by an external conveyor and a robot arm of the robotic constructing system is configured to pick up the bricks. The robot arm is then configured to place the bricks in a position to receive an adhesive from an adhesive dispenser of the robotic constructing system and further to load the bricks onto a linear rail. The linear rail can be configured to place the bricks within the proximity of the cable-driven robot. The cable-driven robot can be configured to pick up the bricks and lay the bricks in the designated position of a three-dimensional space.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2019Date of Patent: September 21, 2021Assignee: THE CHINESE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONGInventors: Darwin Tat Ming Lau, Adam Fingrut, Kristof Crolla, Yeung Yam, Yuen Shan Chan, Yulong Wu, Man Kit Cheung

Publication number: 20150082740Abstract: A brick laying system where an operator such as a mason works proximate a moveable platform having a robotic arm assembly, a mortar applicator with a mortar transfer device, and a brick transfer device to build structures. The robotically assisted brick laying system may also contain a stabilizer having a disturbance sensing and a disturbance correcting component that provides compensation for disturbances caused by load shifting, movement of the platform, wind, operator movement, and the like. In addition, the robotically assisted brick laying system has a sensing and positioning component for controlling placement of the moveable platform and robotic arm assembly. The interoperability of the system with a mason or skilled operator removes much of the manual labor component of brick laying, allowing the mason more time to focus on craftsmanship and quality, thus improving the end product and the overall working conditions of the mason.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2014Publication date: March 26, 2015Inventors: Scott Lawrence Peters, Nathan Podkaminer, Thomas Charles Coller

Patent number: 8825208Abstract: An automated block or brick construction apparatus is provided by adapting a base transport assembly with a specialized working platform for brick, block and mortar. The working platform houses at least one robotic arm to accurately position mortar and block or brick in place on a wall construction. The working platform is controlled by a 3-D stringless guidance system for positioning vertically, horizontally, and laterally. The robotic arms place and position a block or brick and stage the subsequent blocks or bricks for installation. A first robotic arm can apply mortar onto a wall while a second robotic arm places a concrete masonry unit accurately onto the mortar and also place blocks in position. Application and movement of mortar and blocks are controlled by a programmable central processing unit.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2012Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Inventor: Richard Mark Benson
