Abstract: A composite table top including a top plate having an outer and an inner surface, a bottom plate comprising a plurality of projections, each of the plurality of projections having a top defining a top surface. The composite table top has at least a pair of reinforcement inserts disposed at two opposite edges of the bottom plate. The sum of the top surfaces of the plurality of projections is 30%-70% of the upper surface of the bottom plate.

Abstract: A non-deformable laminated trim molding is provided to form watertight sealing between laminated panel members such as a counter top and a wall. The trim molding is laminated prior to installation so that the color of the laminated trim molding is related to the color of the laminated counter top. The trim molding includes a part to fit between panel members such as between a counter top and a wall or between a counter top and a back splash. A sealant layer between the laminated panel member and the laminated trim molding prevents water or other liquids from penetrating through to the substrate of the counter top, which is usually wood.

Abstract: An improved method of countertop manufacture having a laminate or veneer horizontal upper surface and a laminate or veneer vertical face with a corner element with an arcuate surface that smoothly fairs into both the upper surface and the face. The countertop is manufactured by first mounting a piece of solid surface to a backer and finishing to a desired arc. The solid surface is then bonded to the vertical laminate surface and substrate to create a joined edge piece. The joined edge piece is finished to form a flat base. The finished edge piece with an arcuate corner element is then bonded to the horizontal surface to form a countertop with a rounded corner joining the vertical laminate surface and horizontal upper surface.
Abstract: A fast, easy method of attaching and properly adjusting furniture edging that facilitates the improved aesthetic quality of the finished product while also providing an attachment that is both strong and watertight. The countertop assembly defines a edge construction having a unique double tongue and groove configuration that wedgably interlocks a decorative side molding against the exposed edge of a furniture panel by means of a specially configured groove on the bottom side of the furniture panel. This method of edge construction instantly locks and tightens the edge molding against the furniture panel edge thus, eliminating the need for temporary clamping while at the same time allowing for critical vertical adjustment of the edge molding to ensure the proper alignment of the top of the edge molding with the furniture panel.
Abstract: An integrated system and method for fabricating a countertop from a slab is disclosed. The system includes a cutting station where an apron strip of a predetermined size is cut from a slab, a translating station where the apron strip is translated and positioned along the cut edge of the slab, and a press for adhesively bonding the apron to the cut edge of the slab.
